After about three months of break in my 65 PRRI which I put in a Eminence 1058 speaker after a week is coming to life. I owned a real BF Princeton in the early 80's so I have a good reference point and at my last rehearsal that's what i was hearing. I had the volume on 5 1/2 using my Robert Cray strat and the tone was just like what I remembered. Just a bit of super sweet grind no pedals needed to nail a good tone for a tune like Old Love. Point is this is one awesome amp but these babies need to break and burn in.

What does the Eminence 1058 give you that the stock Jensen doesn't, and vice versa? Thanks.

It gives me a speaker with a larger magnet and voice coil so it stays clean as to let the 6V6's break up not the speaker. The 6V6 break up is what the amp is all about. In addition the 1058 does not have the ice pick highs of the Jensen C10n. If you look at boutique amps of similar design they come with a 1058 which imo should have been the stock speaker to be chosen by fender. All that said I hear what I like from the 1058 it's the tone I was hoping to get and reason I paid a grand to buy this amp.The Jensen did sound fine at low volume it was at higher levels that the speaker sounded harsh and tiny to me. Again the PR RI sounds sweet at low volumes with the pristine chime with any speaker but what this amp is really about to me is what you get when you crank it. Isn't that why we use tubes amps? Many solid state amp sound awesome at clean and low to moderate levels but fall short when pushed into clipping.

edited for spelling so grammar wouldn't take precedent over
content in my post.

Cool on the 1058, Tony. I have a 1058 hanging around that I purchased for an amp that I sold before installing it, and I'm going to either pick up another 1058...or maybe a 1028k...to go into the 63 Vibroverb RI I picked up recently.

I have a 1028 that I'm trying to break in. So far the Jensen C10R wins by a long shot. I use the C10R in my PRRI and also with my Tweaker and Ibanez head.

For me the 1028K turned out to be a real POS. Jensen C10R is the only 10" speaker for me. I've tried several and different brands.

Hi champster!

"...Jensen C10R is the only 10" speaker for me..."

Wow, now you got me curious ;-)
I just picked up a Jensen RI P10R for cheap to try it in my Princeton Reverb!
It now carries the original (70´s) Oxford, which sounds real sweet at low volume, but lacks a bit of sparkle, and is a bit on the weak side when playing out.

cheers - C.

I like the Jensens of those mentioned above. The new reissues can be a bit beamy and harsh but a felt dust cover mod fixes that.

I did pick up the 1028 to pair with the the 1058 in my VVRI. I just installed them a few days ago so I'm still very much in the honeymoon phase and they're a long way from being broken in, but so far I'm really liking that combination.

I've now tried the 1028K in several amps. Yep, for me it's still a real POS. So much so that if someone wants it and live close they can have it.

This is why they make a bunch of different speakers. I have had a few different speakers in my Silverface Princeton Reverb. I currently have a Eminence Delta Demon in there. I have a Weber alnico Blue Pup, Jensen Mod 10-35, CTS alnico, they all have interesting color/flavors. I'm sure that I would like the 1028, but maybe not better than some of the others.

Really?

I just happen to not like how this one speaker sounds to me.

Mr. champster, I wasn't trying to direct my post at anyone in particular, sorry if I offended you or anyone else. I don't like all speakers myself. I don't necessarily feel the speakers I don't care much for are bad, just not my flavor or color.

It all fun here. Besides, if we all sounded the same just think how boring that would be. Also tastes change and so does hearing. Speakers I use to swear by I now swear at. Music is about enjoying what you play, even if you play just so so as I do.

I've had someone else play through my amps and speakers that I thought sounded not so good, and they sounded very good with them. I prefer to have equipment that I think I sound good with and I'll let it go there. :>)
