Has anyone tried using 12Ay7 tubes in V1 and V2 of their Twin Reverb? Also is it OK to use these tubes and what were the results in this amp?

While I personally have not used them in a Twin Reverb I have read posts where others have. It will not hurt anything using them in V1 or V2. Not sure you would like the tone if they were used in both positions at the same time but it doesn't hurt to try. It will drop your gain on the amp.

It's just a guitar, not rocket science.

I put a 12AY7 in V1 of my amp (a Laney combo). It reduced the gain enough that instead of distortion happening at 3 on the gain knob, I now get to 4 1/2 before distortion kicks in. Before and after recording at similar levels of distortion were so similar in tone I'm not gonna say there was any change at all.

I use one on my AA964 build no trem stuffed into a fender music master bass amp chassis. Since it only had the vol and tone pots if I use a 12ax7 without the gain loss of the black face tone stack it's to grainy sounding and breaks up to fast sort of on the order of a 6G2. Since this built began as a simple 5E3 with only a vol and tone V1 is preamp only and the second gain and PI are V2.

I recently found a stash of 12AY7's and AV7's in my spare tubes.
