I saw a clip from Reverb on FB that Fender is making a run of Esquires built from recycled wood from the benches of the Hollywood Bowl. Estimated price $12K each.

I sense desperation on Fender's part....anything to make a buck...
just my opinion, but guitar based music is in trouble and has been for years. The music industry wants boy bands' and American Idol types...
I hope I'm wrong

I have to agree. With all the Techno and Rap based music I hear and shrinking audiences at clubs I play, I fear you are correct.

It's up to us guitar geezers to keep the flame burning and pass it on...
As for the Hollywood Bowl timber, it holds no attraction for me.

Depends whose "cheeks" (and other parts...LOL) are imprinted on the bench of choice. That will probably be part of the pricing structure.

12,000 big one's for a chunk of wood that will no doubt result in splinters..
I checked out one of the Hollywood Fender dealers websites...it seems that Fender has a stiffy for the relic's and they aint cheap

I had an Esquire custom made for me by Ron Kirn. 12K is stupid expensive. With that money I'd have $10,350 in change from Ron !

Having sat on those benches for several amazing shows the timber does hold some value to me. It's a venue that unless you have experienced you can't really understand. The history is huge and you can feel the vibe just walking in.
But yeah, at 2-3K Fender may have had something cool. This thing is just an exercise in the excess.

Yes, but deep inside that wood is the essence of The Beatles 2 legendary performances @ the Hollywood Bowl in Aug '64 and '65. That's got to be worth at least $10k!

And don't forget the wood also contains remnants of GOTM (gasses of the masses).

Musikraft has been selling necks with rosewood (correction: Brazilian walnut)fretboards from reclaimed wood from the Coney Island boardwalk, which to this Midwesterner means nothing. But they're cool looking.
