My Blues Deluxe needs some filter caps (2 of them are gooey and leaky at the + side) I am looking through one of the sponsers site Amplified parts and for instance I looked up "22 uf 500 Volt" and the + / - allowences are different than Fenders spec sheet. For the cap I noted **CAP AE AX 22uF 500V +50%-10% The site has this @ +50% -20%

I do not want to do this twice and I will be doing it myself. Should I be concerned about this?

Discharge the Caps before touching the insides of the Amp. Short the 2 ends with an Aliigator clip jumper wire.

rfrakes331K, I have seen this process using a resister, can I simply touch the two ends together? Where does the voltage go?

The voltage shorts from the + side of the polarized cap to the - side.

Use one hand to do this because the jolt can kill you.

I am not exaggerating.

Even if your circuit has 'bleed-down' resistors, always always drain polarized (electrolytic) caps. Even small ones can bite.

Thanks for the help. I have decided to send the parts back and take my amp to an amp repair shop, the guy is a month behind but he has me on the calander and will call when its time to bring it.

I have read of some cap upgrades to improve tone and or performance and will ask about that.

Therealfrogman, Sorry to scare you off. If you follow Peegoo, you can't go wrong. My High School Electronics teacher told us that a Technician should work with one hand in their back pocket when working on Electronics gear.

I had it taken care of by a pro in colorado springs, took it up yesterday and picked it up this morning. RossTronics in Colorado Springs.

Great service from a guy thats been doing it for 25 yrs. I just screw things up in most cases, it cost $87.50 to replace all my caps and check everything. I am very happy today as I was feeling pretty lonely for her last night.

Edited to add that the guy put me on his calander 4 weeks ago and called me just the night before last to have me bring it in so I would not have to leave it there for a month.

Very cool how it worked out.
