As I said near the end of my set neck Strat build thread I thought I'd build a set neck Telecaster clone as well.

The body/neck is from GFS. Finish is not quite as nice as the Strat and the body came with a small ding in the top just south of the neck pickup route. Not a big deal for a $110 item. I'll buff a couple of spots and it will be 99%. The cream binding looks great against the black finish and I think the cream pickup rings and cream vintage DiMarzios set it off nicely. I though my old PUs were Zebra but alas they were plain cream. They still look suitable to me anyway. The bound neck is a bonus.

This is an early photo linked below snapped when I was setting it up to mount all the hardware. I've made a bit more progress and now have it wired up and I have done a level crown and polish on the frets. Tuners are Sperzel staggered lockers but I will most likely add vintage string trees to the headstock. I used an Electro-socket jack cup.

A few things about the description of this item, body/neck on the GFS website, They recommend their 5/16" string ferrules for the body. They are way too small for the holes in back of the body. I ordered a set of the 3/8" bass size that have not yet arrived to see if that is the answer. I had Fender P-Bass ferrules at the shop but they are to big. We will see. If none of these work out I'll have to borrow a lathe and make some.

I tried to use a cut down ashtray vintage style bridge on the guitar but it sits to far forward and interferes with the bridge PU mounting ring. The recommended bridge in the GFS site, vintage Strat Hardtail, works just dandy.

I was concerned about string center on the neck and the location of the factory drilled thru-holes in the body. No worries, everything centered up perfectly as did the pickup routs in the body.

I may do a third build, this time another Strat with 3 P90 PUs. At the price of these set necks, these are inexpensive builds and I'm using up a lot of parts I have had stored around the shop.

Progress

I ALMOST bit on one of these and decided to invest that money in some Warmoth parts instead. The biggest thing was 21 verses 22 frets.
Oh, and Warmoth now does "skull and crossbones" inlays, which made the choices easier. AVAST matey!! :)
