Hey guys I feel for you.

Rolls Royce; Bentley, Land Rover; Jaguar; Aston Martin - all gone.

But honestly can you imagine driving a 'Great Wall' Wrangler or Cherokee?

If the Great Wall buys JEEP,Chrysler,FIAT et all;
My guess is the quality will improve.

Perhaps they should make a bid for Harley.

Chrysler builds substandard vehicles.

Chrysler needs to go away.
We bailed them around 1980.
Bailed them a few years back. Now they are building 7 out of the bottom ten.. It's time for them to go away.

As I said earlier, if they take it to China the quality will improve.

Add Maserati to the list. The Quattroporte uses the same window controls as the Dodge Caravan.

Same for the radio/nav system. Yeesh.

I am not making this up.

Jefe46 takes every chance to bash American icons like Harley Davidson. It's funny that HD has out lasted all the European bike builders with a product of their own design where most of the European bike builders began as assemblers of parts, not originators of engineering.

End result of globalization, for better or worse.

Also another reason I find it hard to be interested in cars less than 20 years old that are not rear-engined.

For Chrysler to be substandard, I sure see a lot of Dodge trucks and Challengers. Not to mention all the Dodge Chargers the police forces use.

I never see any of them broke down on the side of the road.

I drive a Challenger and love the thing.

I wanted a 2-door sporty highway cruiser with power to smoke the tires when I wanted. I couldn't fit comfortably in the Camaro or Mustang (they are cramped inside and the interiors are not very good) so I got the Challenger. Everything is upholstered and very cushy. Heated/vented leather seats and steering wheel. Been driving one for more than a year and it's been a great car.

And will likely outlast current detractors.

"(they are cramped inside and the interiors are not very good)"

Only if you are a Sasquatch or NBA type! ;o) (Mine has premium leather, power seats both sides, heated seats & mirrors too)

The definition of "bash" implies physical harm.

The definition of bash does not include posting factual information or making accurate comparisons of one item to another nor does it include simple observations such as:

The US government( we the people) bailed out Chrysler because they could not compete owing to poor quality and mismanagement. And then a repetition.

Chrysler supplied the servos for the 80's M-B autos for the heating / air conditioning system. These were a 100% failure rate as were the several supersessions of that part. This caused thousands of engine failures and cost Mercedes Benz millions. And then Chrysler infected Mercedes Benz and lowered the near century old standard as the best engineered car in the world.
They are still having a difficult time recovering.

I have owned 127 cars and trucks and spent 25 years in the car biz, worst vehicles no question, Chrysler and now JEEP and FIAT. Worst vehicle I have ever owned.. and still have the POS, 1996 Dodge 1500 RAM. What garbage. It's my farm truck and never goes more than 50 miles from home. Trash new , trash now. I bought this cheap from my father in law who got conned into buying it, and went back to GM/Chevy after nothing but trouble from day one.

As to Harley as an American Icon. I agree, ICON noted for the bike most often found on the side of the road etc..and the bike chosen by more thugs and wanna be thugs than any other brand.

While it is true that Euro bike makers assembled from parts.. so does Harley, much of it now NOT made in America. Let's pluck the fly specs out of the pepper.

As to innovators, who was it that innovated and engineered diagonal braking.. not Harley. Desmo motors, Shaft drive, etc all the stuff used on quality bikes .

The Brits and other Euro makers built lighter, faster, better handling bikes .. Harley chose to build something else that , currently, appeals to fewer and fewer bikers.

Like 'em, buy 'em. For me , they are not and have never been, on my shopping list.

I deal from facts and years of personal observation, not from public pressure or advertising BS. I prefer substance over image.

Harley still holds the record for the highest number of crashes and fatalities for motorcycles in my county.

One note on JEEP.. I have owned two JEEPS, a 1951 Willys pickup.. archaic and fun and built like a tank, then I found real 4x4s.. Land Rovers. My second was a cherry 1980 CJ-8 Scrambler. What a ridiculous POS that was. Inexcusable.

One minor correction.. with a twist..
While not European but British, Norton is still in business and founded in 1898.
Indian 1901 and still being made.
HArley 1903.. and before you post that Harley is still made by the family blah blah... not always.. And Floyd was there as well at one time.

And Aermacchi built bikes for Harley who then rebranded them and put them out of business. . These are highly collectable and one of the only non thug units appealing to another segment of cycling.. true sport cycling. . Great handling, braking, light weight, great fuel mileage etc..
Thanks for killing them off.

I owe an apology for misinformation.. I thought I screwed up and I did.

Royal Enfield was founded in 1893 and still in business.

The Jeep has become a failing icon.

Quality has went down, they ride poorly and they get less capable off road every year. Body is now a unitized construction, V6 engine lacking torque, cooling systems are not up to the task of long slow trails.

The Japanese have been killing the market for decades. American offerings, with Mexican, Canadian and Chinese parts are struggling to keep up.
