Stock: Three-way pickup selector switch and rotary series/parallel switch, and no tone control!

Boring *and* painful.

Nice work as always, brother.

That stock switch is a POS. Good call on changing it for the 4-way!

"That stock switch is a POS."

I can't believe they put one of those "import" type switches in a $1500 guitar!

And yes, you continue to make soldering an art form.

I see what appears to be a tone control (the 223 orange cap), but I don't see a treble bleed mod.

I'm assuming that we all define a treble bleed as the C or RC network between the hot and wiper of the volume pot.

There's a cap and resistor attached to the pot hidden down under the wire from the bridge pickup.

I agree, non-standard wiring schemes never seem to really work out the same. I rarely touch a tone control, but having it there gives a certain sound. There's a reason those setups come and go all the time.

How do you like those pickups, by the way? They've been in the DiMarzio catalog for years, but I've never actually heard them.

Nice work!

I've got one guitar with no tone controls. I turned a MIM Strat into a double fat Strat with Tonerider Alnico 2 humbuckers. It has a three way switch and a volume control for each pickup. It rocks hard. Actually, it does all sorts of tones well.

"...with Tonerider Alnico 2 humbuckers."

Those are very good sounding pickups (especially for the price!) and I'm *not* a humbucker guy!

Sorry, off-topic...

I've never found a bad-sounding Tonerider.

Not to hijack the thread, but...Tonerider pickups are some of the best-kept secrets in pickupdom. Their single coil pickups rock, too. You can find them in the Squier Classic Vibe models.
