For Boss Katana amp discussion only.

There has been quite a lot of discussion on the Boss Katana series of amps since it's introduction and most of them have been very positive.

This club are for owners of the Boss Katana amps and Katana amp head and for everyone to share their thoughts.

I myself have ordered the 100 watt Katana head after researching these amps and hearing some very positive reviews. I tried the Katana 100 watt head at a jam several months ago that was plugged into a Marshall 4x12 cab and was impressed by it's tone. After several months of debating about these amps I have decided to give it a try and will receive one in approximately 2 weeks.

Here is a chance for everyone to share their thoughts.

I own a couple of cabs for this head. A Vox 2x12 cab and a 1x12 pine cab.

Really interested in getting the Katana and seeing how the Katana 100 watt head performs through them.

I have the Katana 50 combo and really like it, as previously stated elsewhere. (:oD

I also have the Katana 50 watt 1-12" combo and it is a terrific amp ! Many great sounds are on tap with this one.

I was just reading the reviews for the 50W combo on MF. It sounds pretty impressive, especially for the price! I'm a bass player and am hesitant on spending a lot for a guitar amp, maybe one of these would be a practical choice.

Curious how the acoustic setting sounds --
Reasonably effective as an acoustic amp too?

The acoustic setting is quite good. It's not a simulator, but is made for piezo acoustic pickups. I am very impressed with it, so much so that I sold my dedicated acoustic amp.

As soon as I receive my own Katana amp which is the Katana 100 watt amp head I will give you all my full review.

As I said earlier I tried one of these heads plugged into a Marshall 4x12 cab and although I didn't know the functions of the amp the sounds I managed to set up sounded really good.

I also ordered the GA-FC footswitch too that enable full control of all channels that you program in the amp.

The only thing missing from these amps that can be quite useful is the lack of a built in tuner.

I have the 100 watt 1x12 combo. Great amp, easy to get good tones without lots of fiddling around. Although if you want to do that, you can.
And I'll give a +1 to the kudos for the acoustic channel - it sounds way better than I expected. It enables me - finally - to bring my acoustic to gigs without using the venue's PA or schlepping another amp and cables to the gig.
And, although it's not really a problem, I am also mystified as to why there's no tuner: it can't be expensive to put one in there.

I'm not "in" yet, but the K100/112 is on my wish list.

The one reservation I have - in trying these out (the K50/112 and K100/112 at least) I notice a huge drop in bass when switching from clean to any of the OD settings (Crunch through Brown). You can get some back by tweaking the tone controls and then saving those tweaks as one of the four "channels" on the 100 (there are only two "channels" you can save on the 50).

Other than that, it sounds great. And I have played through the Acoustic channel as well, and it sounds quite good (at least on the K100).

Well, now that everyone is buying these amps (and I have GAS for one as well), they'll probably put the tuner in Version 2!

archiestone - I recently finished selling off all my tube amps when I retired from the amp tech business in 2013. I had the Roland Blues Cube Artist for a while and loved it so much...but some "stuff" happened and I needed to downsize so I sold my beloved Roland and purchased the most affordable and versatile Katana 50 and I do indeed find it to be quite the amp. Overall, it gives me what I want in a small, lightweight package, with little investment and provides the tone that I expected from most of my past tube amps. It is a winner. Do I miss my tube amps? Some of them, yes....but the both the Roland and the Boss Katana 50 have helped me deal with it really, really well. :)

I'm a bass player, so bear with me...

I have several guitars too, just because I can. I also have a small collection of generally inexpensive guitar amps. I'm thinking I might be better served with a Katana combo and moving the others on.

Is there an obvious way of integrating a tuner into one of these combos, or would I be stuck with a pedal tuner? I'm wondering about simple mods, maybe splitting the signal out from the USB.

I've never considered a tuner pedal at the front end of my signal chain to be a problem - especially since I can step on it, be muted, and get tuned quickly and accurately (I'm using a mini Polytune).

Don't know if any amp tuners are as accurate as stand alone units or not, but considering their minimal cost to add to an amp, I doubt it.

I think my Vypyr has a tuner. I don't know. Honestly, I've never cared about that feature when it comes to amps.

Good point about using a tuner as a mute - that's what I'm doing in my bass rig using a PolyTune, and I'm trying out a T21 Bass Fly Rig which would make the Poly surplus and free it up for use with a guitar rig,

I really don't need 100W in a combo, but there are enough extra features in it that I'm tempted.

A nice 50w popped up on CL here. But I would rather snag the 100w 1x12 for the same reason.
