My BIL's FIL (wife's brother's father in law) has a fabulous place right on the ocean in Marathon key. I'm guessing there won't be much left.

"I'll probably lose power early Monday when the worst of it hits..."

We left SE LA on Sunday, August 28, 2005, fleeing Katrina. We got back home around Sept. 8, and we got our electricity back on Sunday, September 11. Many other people were without power much longer than us. YMMV.

I watched the Weather Channel early this morning and this dude was going crazy covering the storm. It was so obvious that he wanted a Cat 5 or even 6 (if there was such a thing). He was making a 40 mph wind sound like 200 mph. I got so disgusted I turned the channel. Seems like the media want this to be as bad as possible, all of them.

When did they start referring to the eye of the hurricane as "the eyeball"? I don't believe I have ever heard this before.

I think you were mishearing "eyewall," the edge of the eye, where the wind blows hard next to an area of calm in the eye itself.

Perhaps, but I swear some of them are using the term "eyeball". I just tuned in again, now they seem to be using the term, "center of circulation".

Power out, getting slammed. Monster oak breaking in pieces, one hit the roof. Hibiscus tree horizontal out front. Going dark, see y'all on the other side.

Hit the sack early..about 9pm...ear plugs, Lorazipam...I knew it would be a long night...got up at 6am....was getting water in through the garage door that wasn't there when I went to bed..Wife stayed up till 3 am configuring a Rube Goldberg solution (it worked!)..I'll take a photo and post later. No rain but some pretty good wind right now.

I'm going to venture outside now that its light and do a quick survey.....Someone's power line went down last night behind me, you could see and hear the sparks...

we never lost power...pretty weird but I'm grateful....the worst is over thank god....

I hope to hell I never hear the word Irma again...

One of the things that you don't hear much about is the Tornadoes spawned by the hurricane. We had Tornado warning after Tornado warning. The houses near me that had some severe damage I think was actually from these small Tornados.

Just got things back here...power,internet etc...lots of heavy wind and rain but we survived with a minimal amount of tree damage and we have a huge number of large trees around us...so I'd say we got really lucky.

"We had Tornado warning after Tornado warning."

According to locals, tornadoes accounted for the high degree of damage on St. Martin. One said that they know how to build strong, reinforced structures, but the tornadoes tore them up.

That, and they also got the full force of Cat 5.

I just saw a weather report and it appears the remnants of Irma are in Arkansas and could possibly be heading south, toward Houston or western LA.
I saw this on YT but googled Little Rock radar to get another opinion.

Here in Palm Beach Gardens all is well. We lost power for a couple hours but that was it. The house is bordered by a concrete wall and concrete structures on both sides. We were completely shuttered so I couldn't see the storm but we certainly heard it.

When we emerged the next morning the roads in our community were covered by branches and leaves.

But all in all it could have been much much worse. So we are counting out blessings.
