I've had an MIJ '62 RI rosewood Strat w/ mods for around 17 years, great guitar but had GAS after playing around on a few larger fretted maple necked instruments.

Started off looking at building a warmoth custom, then got into post-2011 AmDlx guitars.

All would cost > $1k.

Yesterday found a deal on craigslist for a 2007 mexi strat in my preferred neck/body combo for half what I was gonna pay for another instrument, which, as a bonus, happened to include a 2014 mint Epi Les Paul Pro Gold Top. Both w HSC.

Strat is mint and plays great with a little adjustment, may need a shim but that's only because I play my strats a lot unplugged and there's a little middle neck buzz after a quick truss/action/intonation that's unnoticeable plugged in but still manages to bother me..

Got pickups and some accessories on order (it's hss and I wanted sss).. the guitar was not played much and the frets were a bit dingy. Might still need a dressing but I played a bunch of bends in various positions for a few hours and now it plays very nicely so holding off on tuners/tremolo.

The Les Paul is an enigma; haven't even plugged it in yet but played it an hour or so unplugged; plays nice but feels weird in the hands after a lifetime of Fenders. Really nice, beautiful mint guitar but not sure what to play on it as of yet......

Really digging the strat though and stoked at two guitars for the price of one!

Nothing wrong with an HSS Strat. You might try it for awhile and perhaps find that you like it.

That Epi LP is a cool addition to the deal. Playing standing I can go pretty seamlessly between a LP and a Strat. Sitting down they do feel somewhat different.

Enjoy both!

Agree. My last Strat purchase was a USA Professional HSS. I did not think I would particularly care for the "H", but like it. Moreso, the S1 switch enables an "SSS", functionality. Best of both.

Too late for the 'bucker fellas.

I played it a lot last night and enjoyed the extra sound but bought the guitar for a 60s style blues/rock axe and it had to be SSS.

got a little amazon package today..

new pickguard, accessories and a set of vintage '65 pups.

Took it all apart, warmed up the soldering iron and went to work. Ended up likely being a SSS strat from the factory as an aftermarket pickguard had been fashioned (and a new hole drilled in the body to accomodate... )

put the pickguard together, cleaned the rust off the frets with some aluminum foil then polished the fretboard.

Took the neck off, found a shim causing the neck to go too far in the wrong way, took it off, wasn't enough, so put another shim in..

Put some NYXL 10s on it, set the action up, NOW she plays good. :)

still need to fine tune the intonation but am tired of fiddling tonight and just want to enjoy the guitar.

As she sits

That's a good looking Strat. FWIW, if I has only one Strat it would be an SSS.

Nice score on both guitars.

"LP... not sure what to play on it as of yet......"

I suggest
Peter Green/Fleetwood Mac
Gary Moore (warning can lead to talent-related depression)

Played around on some AC/DC last night and Zeppelin that I know and the rhythm parts definitely sounded more authentic on the LP. The LP is a little easier playing "weedly weedly" licks for sure.. still think some of Jimmy Page's leads sound better on the strat.. :-D

paid the price for a half-assed set up on the strat though.. missed a hidden lower bridge burr on the treble E and broke a string last night.. so get to string it again today after sanding it all down..
