I have multiple pairs. I don't have any of the modern versions.
I go for the Classic.

But what is the 70's version? Somehow I missed that.

The canvas ones are flat and uncomfortable. They're the army-tent-version of the flip flop.

A few of the leather All Star versions though (2K, 2000, Dr Js, etc.), are the shizz. I have several pairs, and they are the most comfy shoes I own.

We wore them and Jack Purcell's back in the day before we all got into Keds Champions. But we were 12-13. I can't bring myself to wear them anymore but my almost 18 year old younger son is digging his Chuck's (we just called them Converse in the old days).

They were part of my signature style when I played rock music. Chuck Taylors, jeans, white button-down, and loosely tied black tie. I was so cool. :-)

We also called them Converse AllStars and it was way past when I wore them that I first heard them called "Chucks".

Converse All Stars have always been the PSAB (Preferred Shoe of Advanced Beings).

Don't believe me?

I wore Purcell's and "deck shoes" in high school. My daughter bought me a pair of Purcells for Xmas a few years ago. I hadn't even realized that they still made them. I wear them once in awhile, but mostly it's Red Wings boots for me.

Shoe comfort is highly unpredictable.
These preppy Sperry fashion are the worst in terms
of comfort and function. Just flat. And you need that
flat white sole to prevent slipping off the dock you
are never walking on? YMMV.

Chucks work nice with a simple arch support insert.

On Top-Siders, really? My AO's all have little ortho insoles as part of the design. I wouldn't want to walk 10 miles in them but they are great for around town and on "Nancyboy", the FDP Corporate yacht.

Sperry's don't work for me either, and their sole has no grip on wet slippery surfaces so I don't know how they got their name or rep.

They worked OK back in my sailing days but they suck on ice, that's for certain.
