Do other countries ever provide financial aid to the USA for natural disasters like we do for other countries. Earth quake in Haiti, Tsunami in Japan and Thailand for example.

From time to time some countries make "token" contributions. It's kind of like sending someone a get well card.

Thanks, facts are sometimes scarce...

I'm sure we are a net giver, as should be expected of the wealthiest nation on the planet.

What will be interesting is to see if the international response has changed as our relationships to other nations have changed...

There are lots of net givers, with, for example, Great Britain giving towards two thirds of what the USA gives, from just over a fifth of the population.

I sent some Aussie $$ to people I know in the USA who were going down to Texas to help out.

Does that count?

I know we're a net drag on the economy but I'm sure the people of Northern Ireland would like to think we were part of the effort as well ;-)

Ha! At least we aren't immediately drawn into any debate about where in England Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are..

Foreign aid and disaster relief are very complicated. I think we all want to see as much effort as possible to help those in the path of these events, regardless of where it comes from.

There is no one I know who doesn't have some connection to the areas involved, whether family or friends.

Canada has sent two Hercules aircraft full of baby supplies with more to follow. This was a "need it right away" request from the US. Both governments are in regular communication regarding the situation and more will follow as the specific needs are made known.

Do we actually need to send disaster relief money to people who want to secede from the Union of States ? Didn't Texas fear that the last president was planning on taking over their state and imposing martial law ? They should sink or swim on the own. Maybe we should deny any relief money to people who fly the ever popular Don't Tread on Me flag from the back of the foreign made American badged pickup trucks. Hypocrites all of them. Shall I assume they'll be checking the legal status of all the low paid labor that'll be doing the dirty work of cleaning up Texas ?
