Where do you stand on hash browns vs. home fries?

Generally speaking, lets say hash browns are the grated potatoes, fried up on the flat top, usually to a golden crisp on the outside. Some places use those pre-fab, McDonald's type potato patties, I'm not talking about them.

Home fries are the cubed up potatoes usually cooked (around here anyway) with onions and peppers.

I'm 100% hash browns every time.

I am a hash brown guy.

Guess I'm trans-tuberal in that I "go both ways": sometimes hash browns...sometime homefries.

I like 'em grated, sliced, or cubed and browned crisp-on-the-outside in butter.

Onions have no business in my breakfast taters or anywhere else in my breakfast.

Onions are not what's for breakfast...for me it's eggs n' grits (and 15 grain toast).

"Onions have no business in my breakfast taters or anywhere else in my breakfast."

I had a feeling that was a regional thing. But I'm right there with you, I would greatly prefer they not use them!!!

Hash browns with eggs, the way to go. Though, I do like the small cubed (diced) potatos as an alternate.

Geez! The cattle would have all wondered off, or the outlaws would have camp surrounded by the time that guy had breakfast done!

Hash browns are traditional in my world but I do like the variations on spuds at breakfast, including those that are fried up with onions and peppers (home or cottage fries).

Hash browns, with some of the egg yolk from my 'over easy' eggs. (You can't do that with scrambled eggs.). ;-)

There, my friend, we differ: bring on the onions and the green chilis!

009, when I get breakfast out (rare these days) and get eggs, I have them over easy and then, when the plate comes, lift them onto the hash browns. Gooey goodness. A little Sriracha works too.

If we're cooking, it's home fries. If eating out, at a place that gets it right, it's hash browns. There will be onions either way.
Or as they say at Waffle House, "scattered and smothered".

I like 'em both, but I'll give the nod to the hash browns.
And if it's going to be home fries, a little onion is just fine by me.

Living in the northeast, grits are not easy to come by in the local breakfast eateries. But when they're available, I do enjoy them!
