How many of you know what it is?... what was your menu... still have my 20" skillet, Neuske's bacon, fried taters & onions, fried walleye and beer. An artery hardener but dang good.

You must live in Virginia or something. Closest I came to that was ordering fish and chips from Ye Mucky Duck in Santa Monica when we used to fish off the old Santa Monica pier.

I've done many shore lunches. I don't have the 20" skillet. It all sounds good....

In New England a "shore dinner" would be a clambake, which usually is a lobster, steamers(clams), corn on the cob, sausage/kielbasa, potatoes, plus bread, butter for dipping, and beer, of course..

A real clambake steams all the ingredients using fire heated rocks, seaweed for moisture and flavor, and a tarp to cover the whole thing

How to..

CO2 ... is there anything it can't do?

Walleye are pretty scarce up here -- in fact I've never even seen or heard of one caught. I've eaten walleye a few times on trips to WI and MN -- best tasting freshwater fish there is IMO.

Shore lunch for me has been fresh caught bluefish baked in tinfoil with mayonnaise and lemon on the Smokey Joe on the beach. Side dish would vary but beer was always involved.

Back when I camped, it was usually brook trout on the side of a stream in NH. I'd carry a lightweight cookset with a small container of bacon fat tucked inside along with a baggie of pre made cornmeal breading. The side dish was often a flask of scotch.

I wouldn't want to be the guy who has to carry a 20 inch skillet in his pack.

"You must live in Virginia or something."

Minnesota/Canada thing from my experience (Lake of the Woods).

Sounds good to me. I've had many shore lunches on trips to the Georgian Bay, Lake Huron. Ontario. Canada.

Walleye, bass. crappie, perch, whatever would bite that day.

I shore like lunch.

From the Weird But True files:

The best walleye I've ever had was at the bar in the Holiday Inn at I-35 and Rock Road in Wichita, KS about 10 years ago. It was very fresh; tempura battered and flash-fried. It was so good, I'm still talking about it.

professor, that's what I'm talkin' about. Sadly, the last clambake in Idaho was a disaster. ER's were full for miles around.
