FDP Forum / The Squier Forum / Spring to "lock" a strat whammy bar?

Willoughby, OH , USA

I'm arrogant and a moron

I just found out about this trick, so I bought several of them.
They work fine on my MIM Squier strat. I also have a MIK strat, but it seems like the hole isn't deep enough to allow me to put the handle in on top of the spring and compress it enough to allow the handle to thread.
Anyone think I can grind down the spring/

I also have a Squier Jaguar. At least that's what it says on the head stock. Jag/Jazzmaster shaped body, Strat like neck, one toggle switch, one tone, one volume. When I put the spring in the trem hole, it falls right through into the body. hole appears to obe drilled all the way through the block. Anyone have a solution for that?

If the Jaguar's one of the ones with a Strat trem, could be not spring compliant or an oddball piece.

Why do I keep fixing things that work?

You could probably drill and tap some threads into the block and thread an Allen plug in it.

Well, I just oops it! Lol

The hole is already there so just get a tap that would allow you to thread the hole with a matching Allen plug to create an block to compress the spring against. Done!
