I use EZ Drummer for my drum tracks and though it has hundreds of beats available, the "surf beat" used in the Ventures Walk Don't Run is not one of them. Same with the Apple loops. I've checked out various loop suppliers, but no joy there either.

I may have to create my own, but I'm wondering if anybody has a midi file already made that they'd share with me.

Thanks.

Greg, have you tried the tap-to-find feature? I presume you're talking about a "kick-snare-kick-snare/snare" beat. I've added some modules to my EZD library, when I get a chance I'll look and see if I got something.

Wow, I came up empty using Tap 2 Find, even with all my expansion packs. There are some that can serve as a starting point and then be modified. I haven't found a comfortable way of doing that with EZD2 in stand alone mode, so I do it Pro Tools with it's MIDI editor.

littleuch, I think you know the beat. I don't know about tap 2 find. I have EZ 1 not 2. I have a bunch of expansion packs and nothing comes close. I've taken one that is similar and edited it on the timeline, but can't figure a way to save it. Still working on it though.

Do an internet search for "Steve's springy drums". It includes numerous surf based drum loops. I'm not sure if it's still available but there are a couple of youtubes about it. (drumbeat in link below starts playing around 1:45).

A Walk Don't Run kind of beat

Came across BetaMonkey loops and they had my surf beat on the demo page. Bought the package (on sale 1/2 price!) and downloaded it. Tons of stuff - but no surf beat. Sent email to Beta and waiting for answer. Mean time, I'll check out Steve's drums.

Rob, I wish I'd seen your post before I bought the BetaMonkey package. Steve's has just what I wanted. Since it's only for a couple of songs, I'm going to see if the Beta people get me the loop I was supposed to get with their package. If not, I'll spring for Steve's.

Greg, which BetaMonkey package did you buy that was supposed to have the surf beat? I used BetaMonkey pretty extensively before migrating to MIDI/EZDrummer.

Got it, littleuch! Just what I was looking for. Integrated into my Apple loops folder in Logic as well as EZDrummer.

I have about 1000 drum loops at my disposal, but the problem then is sorting through so many to find the ones I want, especially since some are numbered, not named.. Even EZD can be wacky. Once you put a clip in the timeline, it's hard to figure out what pack it came from.

Yeah, I've had same issue with EZD2. I've never had version 1, but in 2 you have the aforementioned Tap To Find button in the search tab. Click engages, hammer out a snare and kick, hit find and it'll bring up matches from your existing libraries.

If you don't have some sort of MIDI controller I'd recommend getting one. Much easier than mousing.
