We have once again secured the Electric Maid for our 3rd annual DC jam, on Sunday, March 11, '18. I hope you can join us!

As before, we pretty much follow the Clamfest formula. We'll nominate and vote on songs in advance and distribute charts and links to help you prepare. On March 11th, setup begins at 10 a.m.; our music starts at noon and goes non-stop till 6 or so.

The Maid is at 268 Carroll St. NW, Washington, DC. The funky, storefront performance space can accommodate about 25 players, plus some significant others who want to listen and maybe sing backup. We will have beverages and sandwiches for lunch, and we ask folks to chip in $20 (or less for audience-only) to cover food, drink, and the venue. At some point, we'll put out a call for equipment to bring.

Key thing now is for you to check your calendars and shoot me an email (atrotter@aol.com) or post here, so I can get you on the email list for next steps. It's gonna be fun!

This suggestion from Evan is too good not to share and could very well be the finale song

Tons of people taking verses and an all in chorus on a classic tune. Looks like we could get everyone up on stage in front of a mic and plugged in for this tune

what do you think?

I am looking for song suggestions so we can vote on them. This will be done the same way I do Clamfest:
I get a list of suggestions from everyone
I post the list with YouTube links
I provide a web based voting page
those with the most love are included.

Once the songs are decided we open up sign ups 5 songs at a time. You can select more than one slot (vocal and guitar for instance). This means everyone gets a fair shot at equal song slots. It is the most democratic and fairest to all method I can think of. We are looking at 50 or so songs

You can email me/Andrew or post in this thread your suggestions

Timeline is as follows:
January- we suggest and build the list then we vote on the List of Love (LOL)
February- list is finalized, slots open up to fill the list, headcount is finalized
we woodshed till show time!

Hey all, signups for the jam are going well, currently 19 players with a couple of regulars that I still haven't heard from.

We've got some new people from DC, which helps solidify the future of this jam.

We can take a few more folks, so think about it, and let me or gman know. It's gonna be a good one!

we got about 60 suggestions for songs...if you want to jam and you want to play certain songs then you need to email or post them so I can add them for the voting

We also have a 3pc horn section- Trombone (Jenn) Tenor (Evan) and Bari (me) with Evan doubling on alto if needed

Since its around the Corner from St Paddy's Day SteveCarlo (banjo) and me (mando) are looking at some Irish tunes. So if you are a Drop Kicks, Floggin, Gaelic Mishap or Scythian fan suggest a few!

IRISH TUNES ?????????

Any excuse for Steve to play Banjo and wear kilts.

OK - I'll pack the "Irish" percussion instruments!

Me and the "Many Voices in my Head" are waiting to see what you guys have planned. It should be interesting. Don't forget the sheet music.

Public Service Announcement: "When individuals support the collective, the benefits redound to the individuals."

--Fake quote by Karl Marx, just to point out that the upcoming DC Jam can take place because the FDP sustains a positive music community and helps members communicate.

That's why I've just donated--bought a new star--to support the FDP. You can, too! :oD

I do like some XTC (Generals and Majors specially)
The walk away Rene is a great blend-4 Sknns besides a great name are pretty good

And Beatles always a good choice for the FDP!

Yes Steve: Good call on XTC, 4Sknns, and Beatles. Looking forward to material like that.

I went thru my "Percussion Toy-Box" and located my "Celtic Tin Whistle", the "Irish Fork and Spoons", the "Rhythm Bones", and the "Bodhran"; in anticipation of doing some "Irish Rock".

Minor set back though: I "Googled" "Irish Rock" and all the computer would give me was the "Blarney Stone"; go figure?? (I told you I was not a computer person!)

The "Many Voices" suggested some "Pipe & Drum" songs. But that idea was nixed for two reasons. Pipe & Drum music is basically "Scottish", and the wearing of "Kilts" was involved!

See you all soon for the "March on DC".

@Steve: You do realize that there are no "Banjo" parts in "Night on Broadway"; and the Bee-Gees are from Australia, so I don't know if wearing "Kilts" would be appropriate??

But if that song makes the "List of Love", I (and "All the Voices" in my head) will vote for it!

**I hope you have the sheet music for it**
