After watching the Jaco Pastorious documentary this weekend, its time to go the fretless route.

A Fender Custom Shop Jaco is well out of reach, and I had thought about the Squire Vintage Modified Jazz bass, but found out about these.

Hardware is by Wilkinson, so there's decent quality there.

They are going for about $25-$450, so thought that's an affordable way to get into this.

Heck yeah. The headstock looks identical to the original/early G&L basses.

That sounds pretty dang good. The notes bloom like they're supposed to.

Affordable to be sure!

I've got a Vintage Icon Strat. Its pretty good. I've never gigged it, but I would not have a problem with that.

Not sure I'd spend more than the Squier in that range to be honest.

If you wanted specific hardware or it was somehow lacking (and they're solid instruments)...you could get those parts and still likely come out ahead.
