Yes.

I keep a monthly record of all our accounts values including and estimated equity in our home.

Those records indicate a very good past year.

About a 24% increase in net worth between retirement accounts and home equity.

Seven more years of that and I'd be a pretty happy camper ;)

Yes, I'm one of those guys that checks this stuff pretty much daily. And no, it does not drive me nuts seeing it.

I look too much too. I recently moved 5% into bonds, my tax deferred stuff being 100% equities before doing that. Compared to 10-15 years ago, that "safe" 5% is big enough to let me sleep well. Gotta buy a couple stars here shortly...

Same here. I've salted my $$ into several places in the market and it's looking good.

For now.

Snail mail paper statement from Franklin Templeton arrived today. The account is a mix of two funds. Combined the year's increase is 24.33%. The Franklin Growth Fund slice is up 26.78%, the Franklin Small-Mid Cap Growth Fund slice up 21.53%.

Maybe interesting: In nominal dollar terms this year's increase amount is over twice the entire original investment, made in the mid 80s, into a low return, boring, but steady Ginnie Mae fund.

Also maybe interesting, the only time I ever tried to "time the market" was in November 2001, in a stock market trough, where I moved the above mentioned account from the Ginnie Mae I started with to a 50-50 split of the current equities funds. This was the biggest such move I ever made and it is not my current style to do such a thing today.

There were some tough times after that recession but I got through with my 1999 USA '62 reissue Strat.

Most of my other retirement stuff is in the Total Market Index fund with Vanguard, I expect that performance to be around 20% or so when that comes in.

"I've been predicting a 20% correction "

I could stomach 50%, assumption that ten years from now there is a 98% chance I have as much as I do today. 50% chance it will be double in ten.

I work at an insurance company, so I appreciate that in ten years I may not be around at all. :) 57 YO today.

Flock of geese sighted flying over Wall Street. The Dow, with its finger on the pulse of the economy, plunges 12 percent.

"There was perceived risk that geese would no longer be laying golden eggs, explained Donald Davies of Fortune Magazine, leading to panicked selling in hedge funds and mortgage securities.
Fear has a huge impact on the market," he added.

Just updated my account ledger for the week.

Retirement accounts are up 2% for the first five days of 2018. ;)

As much as that is a very short slice of time ... It's still a great start to the new year by any measure. :)

I do my ledger quarterly, too many accounts that need to be consolidated. 2018 resolution. ;)
