Happy 69th! Belated, I'm also late to your party.

My dad would say, "Every day is a bonus, I never though I'd live this long". He began this 20 years ago and lived to 83. His dad passed at 51 and his twin brother passed at 60. A bonus they were indeed.

HBD!

I’m in your boat. I never thought about any “next” Birthday, I mean, when I was 54 I never thought about becoming 55. Maybe on my 31st birthday I realized that my chances of becoming a hippie were absolutely over (“Don’t trust anyone over 30.”). But, I have to admit that it often occurs to me that I’ll be 70 on my next birthday. I guess I consider this to be a landmark geezer moment; there’s no way that you can optimistically rationalize or kid yourself that you’re still middle age. Oh, it’s good to be alive, but my overall sentiment about this forthcoming event is... “crap”....

I work on my Phase II fence replacement when the mood strikes me. Often my left shoulder is pretty sore after some of this work. When I mention my pains to my wife, she responds lately / reminds me that, “You’re almost 70. You’re not a young man any more.” She’s never said, previously, “You’re almost 68...,” or “You’re almost 56...,” 70 is The Year of the Geezer.

(A radio station in NYC during 1966 used to remind listeners it was The Year of the Cat. Cousin Brucie or one of those DJs.)
