I got to spend New Year's Eve in the OR. Went to the ER the previous day and was quickly admitted to the hospital. The following morning they did a cervical laminectomy on my neck. The main issues are little use if left arm and left hand completely dumb. Being left handed makes it even worse. I'm lucky to have a great wife taking care of me. Tomorrow we head down to Clairmont Mesa to see the surgeon.

I hope it all works out for you,

I’ve been there a few times. My injuries have been both nerve damage and serious hand crushing, a surgeon did a good job on my left hand, 2012, after crushing half a dozen bones between the wrist and fingers, he repeatedly told me I’d never play again. I did and still do.

Make sure he knows your a musican. After the emergency surgery on my wrist, the doc would stop by in the evenings and BS with me, When he learned I was a musician he told me he was willing to go back in if I was up for it, I said yes. He is a really good guy but I kind of wondered why he didn’t do it all in the initial surgery. He even delt with the carpal tunnel that was starting to develope.

Stay positive, and do what the rehab guys tell you to do. Don’t push it unless they say it’s OK.

The surgeon said his goal is to have me playing again.

My surgeon is a classical piano player but took up guitar about a year ago. He was catching flack from his wife for having 4 guitars. I told him I only have 3 but do have 9 amps.

Best of luck. !!

After putting my right hand into a shaper around 1992.. the physician reattached several components with the admonition I would likely never be able to play again.

After 2 months of (wimpy therapy) I went on a self regulated, self administered rehab.
Two months after that I showed the surgeon the results of my home grown therapy. He said there was no doubt I would play again.

And so will you.

I do not recommend self therapy.. however, I believe in taking care of yourself. And that is what I did. The results were obvious.

Best of luck to you Champster. I fear my carpal tunnel is progressing in the left hand. Its to the point where I have tested playing with just index and middle finger and see if there might be some sort of Django solution in the future, lol.

I have to be patient but I'm now know for that. Once I'm able to play again my neighbors will definitely know.

Thank you everyone, this is a great site with a lot of great people.

Hopefully I'll put on a jam session later in the year. Just before I couldn't play I bought a DV Mark 50. Nice sounding SS amp with good reverb.
