My wife is a medical professional whose clinic is located inside a Sam’s Club. They are vendors, not Sam’s employees. This morning they texted her to tell her not to come in to work, and now we’re finding a very large number of clubs are closing nationwide no later than January 26th. Here in IL at least six of nineteen are closing, and the number may be increasing.

Ugh.

I feel for the employees but we no longer shop at Sam's. We shop at Costco.

CBS is reporting 240 stores, but I think the 63 is closer to accurate.

BBF, I prefer Costco too but this is going to screw my family.

The number, according to a store manager in Alaska, is 260 of the 650 stores are closing. The ones being re purposed are a pre-emptive strike against Amazon. Amazon is in talks with Target which is struggling financially. The idea is you go to the FDP, then use the link to Amazon. You order anything, including groceries and then you go to Target to pick up your order.

Too bad for the employees. I've known folks who work there and none where happy but it was a job none the less.

The internet is kicking retails butt. If the 260 number is correct that's 40% of their stores. Yikes!

Amazon is doing to Walmart what Walmart has been doing to other stores for years.

Life goes on.

Not being into social media, I'm not into "liking" posts. But if I did, I would "like" NoSoapRadio's post just above.

Fortunately the two Sam's near me are not on the list. I wouldn't care if I had a Costco nearby but I don't.

I have little use for Walmart but I'm not sure I could live in a place without a Costco!

Ours didn't make the list - which is a relief.

No Costco in town. Sam's is it. And we like Sam's for some stuff.

From the article Chris linked;

"Ten of the closed stores will be turned into e-commerce distribution centers."

This is going on *a lot* across the country. New distribution centers being built and other building being convert to dist. centers.

I've seen some massive DCs going up or recently opened in major cities across the country over the last two years.

It's the shift to eCommerce.

Don't forget to click the Amazon link above. :-)

Ever wonder why Costco doesn't have signage hanging from the ceiling to help guide you to what you're looking for?

It forces customers to wander a bit more and see other stuff they're not there to buy.

It's also why they occasionally shuffle the departments around--because over time, customers learn where everything is.

Well, I'm glad our Sam's isn't closing. Yet.

We're losing our K-Mart in April.

"We're losing our K-Mart in April."

You still HAVE a K-Mart?

I'd assumed they were all pretty much gone, like Radio Shack.
