Would you guys spend $3500 for an hour flight in a fighter if it would not be a financial hardship?

Only if I was confident I wouldn't black out or hurl, or both.

I've done it twice... courtesy of the USAF. They have an incentive program, Airman Of The Quarter, NCO Of The Month, etc. and you get to go up.

Ejection seat training, flight physical, the whole bit.

The pilot let me take the stick, and I can say I've flown a Vietnam-era F-4D inverted over Key West at 3,000'.

All I had to do was enlist.

Pinetree,
I was in the USAF in the early '70s and tried to get a ride but never did. Almost got one in Thailand but they said something about non flight crew not allowed to go up in a combat zone although I knew crew chiefs that did.

Once upon a time, I might have considered that kind of money for some time in a modern American fighter but I've got a little over 100 hours in Cessnas and did spin training as part of my flight training. Let's just say I'm good.

Chris, This is an L39 Albatros. It was made in Czechoslovakia. The company sells rides in Russian planes at various places in the world.

"All I had to do was enlist."

Yep -- I had my chance when I was 18 and I didn't. My dad was career AF and was dead set against any of us going into the service.

I missed my chance (which I somewhat regret) so I don't think I have any right to pretend to be a fighter pilot.

I'm a retired USAF Pilot so, no... I wouldn't pay that kind of money to do it again.

And... don't confuse an L-39 with a high performance fighter. It's nowhere close!

You can buy an L-39 for a little over $100k (and up - check Trade-A-Plane). I'd pay nothing to ride in one, certainly not $3500!!

But I might do this for less than half the cost...

I paid $450 to ride in a B-17 on my 60th birthday.

Worth every nickel.

I took my flying lessons in a 2 place Pitts Special. I have ridden in a 2 place P51 if that counts.

If money was no object I'd definitely go for a ride in a modern fighter jet. I don't hurl!

Pinetree, I've been inverted at 4000 ft over Houston! The Pitts of course. The F-4 ride had to be amazing.

My oldest brother had the opportunity to ride in one of the hot jets, I need to ask him which. It was at Reese AFB while he was at Texas Tech, and sussing out a potential military career pathway.

Not a fighter jet by any means but I got to take the stick of a UH-1 Huey for 20 minutes or so in Viet Nam courtesy of the US Navy and a cool pilot. Same thing in a H3 Sea King on a flight from Imperial Beach, CA to Fallon, Nev, and again in a Black Hawk in Taiwan again with a cool pilot.

That experience makes me really respect helicopter pilots. It ain't an easy task.

I worked for Bell Helicopter in Iran in the late '70s and also worked in the offshore drilling business so I have flown in a lot of helicopters. Never had the stick but never really felt the urge. I would like to have the stick in a jet fighter but would settle for a jet trainer.
Chris was your link supposed to be the for sale ad for the L39?

I've been up in 9 different "Warbirds" while I was in the Confederate Air Force. Before that I had friends who were USAF pilots and gave me a sim ride in a KC-135, B-52 and T-38. Pretty good experience and lots of fun.
Would I pay if I had the funds? I sure would.

Back in the day I was chosen for an incentive ride in a F-111E while deployed in Turkey in Aug. 1990. I was in excellent shape then, but I failed the flight physical. My BP was borderline high. :-(
