I've had:
83 American - Loved it, especially the bridge pickup (bridge pickup went bad and was told it couldn't be rewound - sold it)
96 American - I liked it. (sold it)
15 Eric Clapton, Liked it quite a bit (back getting worse and it got too heavy - sold it)
It's been a few years and I'm a tele player for the most part.
So, say if I wanted to get one, where would I start?
I like American, it can be used, and don't care if it has noiseless or not. If so, I prefer not Vintage Noiseless.
$1000 or less. (used?)
Keep in mind, I'm not close to running out and buying one today.
Just interested because that's one guitar I keep going back to, so to speak. And, I don't have one right now.
Lighter weight is better. Can't be over 7.10 lbs.
thanks

If weight was my major concern I'd build or have one built.
One of those paulowina bodies(from GFS) and a nice Fender neck. Roll your own with PUs, controls and hardware.
I did a Tele with similar parts and it can't weigh much over 5 lbs.

Built my own with a Warmoth "chambered" body--swamp ash, with maple top. Other parts (neck, bridge, etc.) from Fender and Callaham. Pickups from Fralin. Came out at 7 lbs. 6 ounces. A really sweet guitar. Nice weight, for sure. Not sure you will easily find a Strat with that kind of weight easily or affordably.
You can see my version...

For $1000, you can get a new Fender American Special. If you're going to buy online, you can get one from a store that will tell you the weight before you order (Dave's, Wildwood, etc.).

That is a beauty, SC. I'd vote for a build as well, you'll get the spec and the weight you want. Even in solid woods. I recently bought a strat from USACG, I haven't weighed the alder body but it is light. They also offer especially light woods if you specify. When I ordered they said their bodies tend to be light, and they only recommend specifying light if you want especially light.

I’m not into building one. I’ve got 2 sculptures going now.
Used is fine, but stratcowboy, that is a beautiful guitar!
Edited because I can’t seem to type.

If you can find a 50th Anniversary American Series Strat (2004) you'll likely be a very happy camper. They occasionally show up on CL around here for around $1000.
These are truly special SSS Strats with killer vintage style pups. Mine is very light and the other 3 that I've played were also quite light.

I own 4 American Deluxe HSS Strats from different years. That shows how much I "like" them and believe others should too (even if it's the SSS version). (:oD
ps - I only paid the full new price for one of these Strats.

I like the Am Deluxes and my SRV. I currently have an Am Series sitting in the closet unplayed and probably will let it go sooner or later. Talk sweet to me. Probably gonna move out my LP out too. Not a Gibson fan. I have several Strats that I love and the others are good too, but don't get played. Too much GAS. But I do need to downsize. Watch the FDP For Sales. Same for boxes of pedals, and big full stack amps. Oh well, woh is me. Getting too old to keep this stuff. But hanging on to my main axe till death.
