What are your thoughts. Will it drive a 50 or greater watt speaker without killing it? What about a Celestion greenback?

About as ordinary as you can get.

I think Champs are in the 5 watt range.
The amp doesn't care if it sees a speaker with a 50 watt voice coil, or a speaker with a 10 watt voice coil.
The impedance of the speaker is more important than it's power handling capability as long as the speaker is rated higher than the output of the amp.

Look at the Warehouse Guitar Speakers (WGS) equivalents to the original Jensens. I mention this because they are better made than the current-production Jensens.

You also cannot go wrong with anything by Eminence too.

I upgraded my 600 reissue with a classic tone output transformer. I added the Bass, Middle, treble and master volume mods. it sounds good through a weber 6" speaker. However, through a 2X12 cab with Vintage 30s the amp sounds massive.
The WGS Retro 30 sound nice also. The Italian jensens seem fuzzy when distorted in my opinion.

igjoedo, I saw our UK Friends post about the 3 band EQ and Negative Feedback loop mods. I am looking at them. He suggested the Celestion GB. Yet it is 25 watts and the Tweed Pro will cook it!

I'm confused, where does a Tweed Pro fit into things?
The Champ 600 requires a 4 ohm load; I think that Celestion Greenbacks are only available in 8 or 16 ohm versions.

That's one point pdf. I guess the Jensen 12s possibly. A local guy has a Celestion Greenback for $60. Good price, but might kill the OT in the Champ. Not in the tweed though. It has a multitap OT, but will probably blow the Cellestion.

So the speaker in question has to work with 2 amps, a champ 600 with a 4 ohm output, and a tweed pro that has had a replacement, multitap OT.
What is the Pro's model number? Does it have any other mods?

Should I change the OT to take an 8 ohm instead of paying $100+ for a 4 ohm speaker?

With that amp, I would get the correct ohm speaker and not change the OT.
I doubt if you'll be able to tell the difference in a blind test, if you tried 5 different speakers.
Stick with 4 ohm. Lots of great Champ speakers out there.

pdf64, I wanted to use this 12" for both the Champ 600 and a Tweed Pro clone. But that would require changing the OT in the champ to an 8 ohm tap.

BbendFender, So if I change the OT, it might ruin that nice ODD tone?

I guess I should go for something like a brownface Vibrolux instead of wasting $150 or more for a speaker...
