After 30 years, I should play better.

I'm trying to find a 2000-2003 Fender American Series Strat for my brother in law, but am coming up blank with the usual places (Reverb, Elderly, Dave's, Willie's American).

Having collected this vintage for years, it seems to me that these shouldn't be so rare, nor expensive (1K plus).

Does anyone have any leads? (the closer to NYC the better.)

I have a 2013 American Deluxe with a v neck, and thought I would try to find another one... Ended up with a similar situation.

Perhaps if you put a call out to some of these people they could put you on a waitlist?

If you're careful, you can find it on FleaBay. I know a lot of folks are wary of going that route, but it casts a very wide net for this sort of stuff.

Check with Gruhn's too, as sell as the GC used gear Website. GC catalogs all their used gear and will ship from one store to another.

As Peegoo suggests, do a search on Guitar Center's used page. If you don't limit the search by zip code, you'll see everything around the country for used Strats of this model.

Craigslist or similar local outlets.

Do your research beforehand on serial numbers versus date, etc.
There are numerous websites (starting with Wikipedia and Fender) that can decode/explain the serial numbers for you.

And, just my advice: When you figure out the serial numbering scheme, if you place an ad on CL, include an explanation in the ad. Hopefully that way, if the seller has a guitar that is not in your range, then they won't waste your time contacting you.
A lot of CL people are motivated by things other than truth or reality or common sense.

$950 - $1000 sounds about right to me.

Do you want a guitar or a deal?

Thanks, everyone.

My role is pretty much just passing along recommendations as he played with my stat and would like a similar one.

The agenda is a good guitar in pretty much original shape. A couple hundred bucks isn't a deal breaker -- it just seemed to me that they had been in the $8-850 range every time I check (which is far too often, given love of this vintage).
