I thought it was odd that nobody has posted about Fender's recent announcement that it has discontinued the MIM Standard models and replaced them with the new Player Series.

It's for reals, not a hoax. (:oD

Correction - Apparently the new series is MIA: "affordable, North American-built electric guitars and basses."

Yeah, they wouldn't waste e-ink by adding "North" if this new series were made exclusively in the USA.

This is great news for lefties. We've been saddled with the MIM Standard for too long now. All the Fender $600 - $1000 guitars have been righties. No lefties at all.

Yeah...I saw this in my in-box the other day from Fender. They look fine. But not being in the market, I just briefly glanced at them. I believe I did see that they are 2-point bridges with traditional style saddles. Which I think is a good mix.

Interesting . I do thing Fender has handled the MIM line pretty well. But back in 2001 I bought my first MIA (American Series for 799 with a case. The times they are a changing.

Over the years I have learned to loathe the MIA Modern C with its wide nut and 2 point trem. If I bought another strat it would probably be a Roadworn for me. How I remember the hate they got when they first came out . Still great guitars.

I'll stick with my classic players. Even though they're MIM, they're all i'll ever need. Strat and Tele.

First youtube listen, they sound pretty good. They have alnico pickups now.

But life's too short (or is it money?) to own a strat with a two point trem and a non-vintage spec so they're not for me, thanks.

The "North American" reference is from the ad on the GC web site. And if you read it carefully, it does not explicitly say that they are MIA.

Hmmm, could this be considered misleading?

On the Fender web site I could not find anything that explicitly says at all where they are made, except......

If you look at the pictures/photos, and zoom in on the back of the neck, on the back of the headstock they have an "MX...." serial number and say "Made in Mexico".

Not as likely as you'd think, given, well, Fender being out of stock on so many of them for so long!

ejm - I wonder why Fender is not being very transparent about where they're made? Marketing ploy?

Yep!

There was absolutely no need to do it. But they did.

I suspect an upcoming sale on the lefty Standards, though. There are still plenty of those in the marketplace.

Could be that with the current political climate, Mexico (and Canada) have become big-time scapegoats for certain folks. I'll stop there...

Leftee, that graphic in your link reminded me...

Australia being part of the "Commonwealth", we get a fair number of Canadians down here.

If ever you want to stir them up, just ask them if they're North American!!! They hate that!
