....no custom shop, no signature series, what would you get. Be specific, with color, finger board, pickup configuration, etc.

I would get an American Elite in three color burst, with a rosewood board and three single coils.

I am gassing for the American Elite in Sky Burst Metallic with maple neck and board. 3 Singles also. The American Professionals do not speak to me at all.

I honestly don't know whats available today. I know if the Hotrod 62's were still in production I'd be all over a sherwood green one.

It would have to be a Roadworn strat, for the 'original' specs: 3TSB, pau ferro board, spaghetti logo, '60-64 hole pattern pickguard, nitro, 6 point trem, 7.25" radius, (and non-'original') tall frets. Then I'd put in better pickups.

Or the Classic Series 60's Lacquer for all the same reasons, except smaller frets. But the one pictured on the Fender website has a 3 piece body. May as well buy a Squier Classic Vibe unless it's 2 piece centre-jointed.

It seems very odd to me that Fender no longer produce a non-roadworn strat with the original specs, or close to it, as the AVRI's were. A 3 piece body on a sunburst strat, as in the Classic Series, would be a big no for me.

An American Elite HSS Strat with a rosewood fretboard.

Note - I own four American Deluxe Strats so I'm actually NOT in the market for an Elite. (:oD

Hey 5S - What year models are your Deluxes? I have 2 ‘07 SSS rosewood. I bought the first one new and got the 2nd NOS when they changed S-1 switching in 2010.

If They would do the original 50s in surf green I would be all over it. I had an AVRI 57 RI , but didnt care for the vintage frets . I love , love the 50s era pickups as I have them in both my strats.

18megohm - All mine are HSS models. The 2003 one I have was called an "American Deluxe Fat Strat" at that point. (I think I have the years listed in my profile.)

My two newer Strats have the S-1 and the Passing Lane switch. I disengaged the Passing Lane on one of these Strats when I replaced the pickguard.

The S-1 works great on an SSS model, particular for the bridge pickup, but isn't very useful for an HSS Strat (to me at least).

I'd just get a Squier CV60s. Does what it needs to do. Only comes in one color, so no decisions to make there. Won't feel bad if it gets banged up. I'm more Toyota than Mercedes.

THE CV line has been the MIM Standard killer for quite a while now. It's about time the Standards are retired. There is zero shame in a CV. (-:

No longer know or care what Fender offers, I learned years ago to buy the individual components online and bolt them together. That's how I get what I really want.

I'm feeling a Hendrix vibe, so maybe an American Special, Oly White with maple fingerboard.

I just spec'd out a Mod Shop version. You can get the exact same guitar (AmSpecial neck, TS pups, etc.) for twice the price!

($999 vs $1799)

"No longer know or care what Fender offers, I learned years ago to buy the individual components online and bolt them together. That's how I get what I really want."

Exactly. I've had an incredibly hard time finding a Fender I really liked that checks all the boxes that isn't an expensive custom shop model. Even with my Time Machine 1960 NOS I had once upon a time, I wasn't all that happy. I then got a Thin Skin 52 and wasn't too thrilled with it either.

I would like to be able to get a regular type American Standard sort of guitar but for years the necks on those things have been so thin I can't chord without getting pains in the hand. So that's a definite no go.

In 2018 if for some reason I was getting a Fender Strat, I'd maybe go for the Professional series. Sonic Gray / Rosewood.

Sans custom shop, there's not really anything that interests me at Fender in the Strat world. *Maybe* the 50s American. But I'm confident I could build a better more accurate one for less.

I am sure I went way too far into this question. Sorry about that.

If they make one in CAR with a maple board, 9.5" radius, chubby but not fat neck, SSS, locking tuners, vintage bridge, mint guard, aged plastic and the small headstock w/50s logo I'd like to own one.

Hammond, if you really want one, you might check out the Mod Shop. You can get pretty close, except you might have to settle for an American Pro-type hybrid 2-point 'vintage' bridge. $1649. For that price, maybe they'll give you a vintage bridge, if you ask?

If it has to be Fender, probably an American Elite HSS in Ocean Turquoise with maple board. In recent years, it would have been an Eric Johnson sig, but I'm not digging the current model because I strongly dislike f-holes on Strats.

But I'd probably order a G&L Legacy HSS so I could get a 12" radius fretboard with a lightweight empress wood body.
