I have 2

1) Marshall DSL40c
I never thought I would like anything by Marshall, but per leftees recommendation I bought one . I have to say this amp gets some killer tones . Hard rock, classic rock ,even some nice bluesy tones are in there and I am still experimenting with it.

2) Fender Princeton Reverb 68 Custom
I wasnt really too keen on the VM line of amps , but at the time I was looking for a nice grab n go amp and this seem to fit the bill after realizing I dont care for el84 based blues jrs . I have never tried the 65 , but my preference is amps with nice mids and this amp has it in spades. For the size it is pretty loud and its hard to believe its just a 10 inch speaker. The reverb and the tremolo are outstanding in this amp. A nice compliment to the 65 drri.

What amps surprised you.

I really Love my DSL 40c with the creamback. Not sure i was going to, but WoW!

Looks like I've made my decision on the replacement Fender for the Blues Jr i sold.
Think I'll be going with the Red wine Deluxe with the alnico. Hope that one surprises me also.

Foggy I have that same drri. It took me a while to break in the speaker . Once I did I like it better than the c12k. Very crunchy.

I haven’t really had this experience yet. I’ve been let down by a few amps, though.

Orange Micro Terror. I got a great deal from a friend, but had low expectations. The is a nice sounding amp and quite versatile considering its simplicity.

I think that I would very much like Fender '68 Custom Princeton Reverb. My '65 PRRI mostly gets played through a 1x12 Carvin cab which sports a Celestion V-30.

About as ordinary as you can get.

I really like my Princeton Reverb amps. I use one when we play a gig. I once thought they were too small but these days, they are just enough and I get to crank them up.

Yeah, even the current PRRI amps will jump around a bit when cranked. They can get eardrum-poppin' loud.

I bought a VHT Special 6 based on recommendations here. It's not that I thought I wouldn't like it but I didn't expect it to be that good.

Fender Champ, well a 5F1 clone.
Never liked amps that small before...the types I'd tried before always sounded like a crappy radio. Saw a used Carl's Custom 5F1 for sale at a great price figured, what the hell I'll resell it and break even if I don't like it. 2 inputs and volume...going to be pretty much a one trick pony I suspected. Boy was I wrong. I'm still amazed at the markably different tones I can get out of single coil guitars thru this thing by just the smallest tweaking of the guitar controls. Plus, the little SOB can sound like a monster when mic'd.

Champion 20. I have owned a _ _ _ _load of boutique amps over the decades. Now my Champion 20 is all I plug into.

My wife bought me a Marshall Class 5 about 5 years ago as a b-day present. Completely out of the blue and at first I hated it, but now I have it under control and couldn't be happier with it. I don't gig anymore so it is the perfect little office set up.

Another vote for the Marshall DSL40C. I never really had any desire to own a Marshall, but damn you Leftee😎

Fender HRDeluxe III

Got it in a trade.. ended up loving it! So I had to get an extension cab. lol

12ay7 in V1 and a 12at7 in V3

Volume and Drive "good to go!" installed some old Oxford's 12T6 ... OMG! I have to make myself to stop playing it... I have serious money in some Vintage and Boutiques.

It's just a great fun amp to play and sound great on stage.

I bought a 90s Fender "Deluxe 90" SS amp with a blown speaker from a guy for $30 a while back. Replaced speaker and an errant pot or two and got it working well. Damn if it didn't sound really great clean -- gain not so great. I did a blind A/B test with a fellow guitarist (whom I consider very tone-knowledgeable) where I set it up next to a DRRI and asked him which was the DRRI. After careful consideration... He chose the Deluxe 90. Hah!*

*(Would have fooled me too.)

Fender Champ narrow panel. It's my main practice amp; simple but versatile over a nice range of OD at ear friendly levels. I play it through a 12" Celestion Blue.

My almost daily use of this amp surprises me to this day.
