Hello everyone!
I am about to buy a fantastic sounding (and feeling) Fender Stratocaster MIJ '83 ST57-85. But I've noticed that it has 5-piece body. Does anyone have any knowledge if that is original? I am not sure and cannot find any info online.
Thank you.

I couldn't say for certain, but the -85 was second only to the top of the range -115, and should have a top specification. A 5 piece body sounds very wrong to me. I've owned and worked on a few early MIJ strats and they all had two piece bodies as far as I could tell.

Do you have pics of the body itself, contours, finish, neck pocket markings, pickup routs, etc? That would tell us more.

Yes, I am posting the link with pics below.
The feeling and the sound of the guitar was actually great. At the end when I was checking for dings and scratches ;-) I've noticed the seams of each piece. And yes I've read somewhere that 85 and 115 models should have one or 2-piece bodies.

If it sounds good, it is good.

I know. If it sounds good, what's the difference? But still, you know there's this feeling that something is off...

Fender specs up to 5 pieces, so I wouldn't worry about it.

Everything that I can see checks out. The chances of someone having all the other bits and faking a body exactly like a JV with a nitro finish (assuming it is) and the neck pocket B stamp, are remote. It looks like a genuine -85, in amazing condition. And if it feels and sounds good, it is good!

Thank you, guys. I am at peace now. :-) So I'll go for it. It really sounds and feels amazing. I've tried CS Gilmour last week, which felt good, but the sound was not "straty" enough if you know what I mean. It lacked that strat character. So I passed it. But this one felt good from the beginning. Except for those seams, that put me off and I wasn't sure if all is right with the guitar. I even found one -115 model on Reverb.com that also has 5 piece sunburst body... so there you go. It seems that it doesn't matter. They did like they used to do it in the 50's I guess when Leo didn't want to waste any wood. :-D

Very nice score, congratulations. And I've learned something, thanks for posting.
