...with super glue and nitro!

I managed to bash my right thumb this morning when I was breaking a tree branch for Cinder (our Kelpy-X) to fetch from the creek.

The way it broke was weird and bit I was pulling on went square into the end of my thumb splitting the nail vertically as well as pulling the nail away from the fleshy underneath bit. (I may have uttered a swear word)

I was worried about catching the jaggered broken bit of the nail so I thought I'd try a repair before getting out the clippers.

I was able to wick the super glue into the crack and hold the nail in place with a toothpick until it set enough. I hit it with some accelerator, smoothed it with a jewelers file then laid on a coat clear nitro (actually it was clear nail polish, but it has nitrocellulose in it).
I could have gone with orange, red or black but chickened out and did the clear :^)

It's still a bit sore, but at least it doesn't catch on anything like clothing or towels.

Man that smarts! BTDT!

I was running giant re-saw at a lumber mill once, and there was a wood sticker, the thin strips of 1/4 x 1 1/2 used to stack lumber, resting on top of the 2x12 I ran threw the re-saw. I didn't notice it going in until it was too late, as the re-saw pulls the board through the saw with pressure rollers automatically.

The wood sticker was shot out of the re-saw (25' away) by the top plainer at warp speed, and hit the tip of my thumb as I was reaching for the next board. Split the nail down the center to the cuticle. Lost half the nail as it was pealed up. Bled like a stuck pig. Ended up with a few stitches, and mesh to cover the area where the nail was missing.

Sucky thing is those finger injuries where the nail is messed up take forever to heal.

Sounds like you're back on track, guard that baby!

Geez, I feel like a wuss after hearing your story!

I’m sure it will heal up pretty well in a week or so.
I’ve got heaps of super glue and nail polish to keep it going!

Carbon fiber, Mick! Then you'll be like half cyborg.

Leftee, now that you've probably had your breakfast, let me tell you about the time I watched my carpenter coworker cut his thumb off with a Skillsaw.

Nah, I won't tell ya!

"I could have gone with orange, red or black"

You could have done a three tone sunburst.

"Thompson's personal journey began on Jan. 11, 1992, the day of the accident. The then-18-year-old farmer was alone on his father's farm in Hurdsfield transferring barley from a truck to a large grain bin.

The grain auger he was using was attached to an old tractor by a one-inch-square power takeoff shaft. The spinning shaft was not covered.

Thompson believes that when he stepped backward the tails of his shirt became entangled in the shaft, quickly pulling him in and spinning him around until he was thrown free. When he awoke, both arms were missing."

He's now writing a book about it.

“That thumb just has the best tone you ever heard.”

That’s ‘cause it’s vintage. All original ‘62...
