We’re going to visit the area next month. Local insight is always good to have. Light is on if you prefer to discuss off line.

My in laws used to live in Hudson outside of New Port Richey, it's been a few decades since I've been there. There used to be a little shack on the beach (Sam's?) that was a fun evening jaunt for a hotdog and sunset. Who knows what it's like now. The only other place of note I can think of is Tarpon Springs. A place to waste an afternoon or do a charter out on the gulf.
I'm sure others more familiar will chime in.

My wife, the trip planner, is quite interested in that part of Florida. We were around Crystal River last year. She wants to check things out closer to Tampa this time.
She has mentioned Sam's and Get Hooked as places that have bands and might be fun to hang around. Sam's appears to be more than just a shack these days.

Cool! My wife says we were at Sam's after it was knocked down by a storm and then rebuilt a bit fancier. Been a while. This looks like it's escalated even more. Been to Crystal River, not a whole lot happening there. Its due west from me. Cedar Key down this way is kinda cool too.

Cedar Key looks cool. Crystal River is as far North and Inverness is as far inland as we went last time.

Peegoo, in a roundabout way, Weeki Wachee is how we became aware of the area. One of our neighbors in Texas was a former Mermaid. That family came up in conversation one day last year, which led my wife to investigate whether the place still exists. As she learned more about that part of the State, she became interested, so we checked it out and are going nearby again this year.

Hi Rick. If you can get to St Pete the Dali museum is interesting and in a beautiful location. And air conditioned (see below).
While I've been in this area since 2005 we've been living more inland. Seriously if you want to golf, target shoot, or do a tandem parachute jump I can help out. If you want to spend an entire day doing a drive to the east coast to the Kennedy Space Center it is also worth it.
Please keep in mind today it hit 95 here and humidity is 50 ~ 60% so outdoor activities may be something you wish to avoid. Evenings it drops to 75 or so as a low.

Thanks for the info and offer, Gene. I would find the museum interesting, but she's not a Dali fan.
The weather here is about the same as there, as it was when we visited last August. The sign outside a bank I passed earlier said it was 97 degrees. The current temperature is 94, the heat index is 102 and the humidity is climbing from 46% to 80% before midnight.
