My wife’s iPhone received three short phone calls from my iPhone within about a 20-30-minute period early tonight (her phone rang each time; she wasn’t able to answer the calls in time). BUT I didn’t make any calls, didn’t have the phone on me. There seems to be some sort of auto-calling going on. Anyone know something about this?

I looked through her recent call history and saw where this has occurred before, a month or two ago.

That's a new one for me. My big issue is that the dictation function often stops on its own. Sometimes it comes back, often, I have to reboot the phone. I use dictation, primarily for texting although Apple's AI or whatever they use for this function still needs a LOT of work.

Not to change the subject, but a couple of weeks ago, on a Sunday morning, my iPhone notified me how long it would take to get to our church, it showed the address to the church (which I had never entered into the phone) and how long it would take to get there. Like it "knew" I was going there that day, which I was, but still.....

I'll sometimes be leaving somewhere and my iPhone will tell me the quickest route home and how long it will take. Thing is I'm not always going home next. I'm wondering if it's got to do with the bluetooth connection to my car.

I sometimes use dictation in the car, when I shouldn’t be texting at all. Only at traffic lights. But anyway.

It is completely ill equipped to translate my New York accent, and it results in “typos” about 75% of the time.

Not for nuthin' but I only turn on location services when I need it for a specific task/app. Otherwise, most of my phones features are turned off. That Siri is starting to piss me off. It's amazing what the AI gets wrong. And as Mike points out, if you have any accent, non-articulated speech, or use common abbreviations with the dictation function, you can get some interesting results having little to do with what you are dictating.

I may have posted this, can't remember, but a couple of years ago my phone rang at 3:00 AM, I sleepily said "hello" to the somewhat familiar voice on the other end, also saying "hello", so I say "who is this" and the voice says "you called me". I said no, you just woke me up, I didn't call anyone, and who is this?"
Well it was an old friend who I rarely call, maybe once every year or so, and I had not dialed anyone. But he said that HE was asleep and that I had woken HIM up!

And two nights later it happened again.

Now, I still had a flip phone, so no way to butt dial, AND, my phone was out of reach on the far side of my night stand. My friend maintained that his phone was also out of reach, both times.
It never happened again and we still have no clue.

Well, I never heard of this problem either, and didn't think it was common. But I just did a search, and there are a lot of links suggesting fixes. I'm working my way through one reference now.

Obviously ghosts. If I was a ghost I would be pulling pranks nonstop, and in the cell phone age, that’s a good one.

I was using my voice to text the other day, and it heard "odd" as hard. I'm wondering if it thought my location in SE Louisiana meant that I speak like a New Orleanian, leaving out ending Rs. But I speak with a slight southern accent.

So does "Recents" on your iPhone show that the outgoing calls were made? Just because your wife's caller ID shows the calls as coming from your number, it doesn't necessarily mean that's where they actually came from.

I go to ridiculous sounding extremes whenever I use the dictation function on my iPhone, speaking slowly and enunciating every word carefully.
And then I still have to go in and make corrections. The enunciation and correction chores usually end up taking longer than it would have to manually text in the first place.

iPhones on TV:
At least I think they're iPhones. I'm still on an iPhone 5, so who knows how many iterations have popped up like festering boils in the last few years.

Anyway, the people on TV shows have no problem at all communicating with "Facetime".
No matter where they are, in bottomless caves or far flung corners of the world, an utterly glitch free Facetime encounter is had at the touch of a button.

In my world, Facetime is one of those roll-the-dice functions, where my odds of actually making contact are equivalent to the driver ahead of me signalling his intention to turn before doing so.
My wife and I have experimented with this wow-feature of Apple and found calls to each other dropping off if we're in different parts of the house.

In fact, we're still high fiving about the time a few years ago that we made Facetime contact while she was in Hawaii and I was in California, because it was so unexpected and astounding.
Of course, to make the call, I had go out to the garage with my phone while hopping on one foot to placate the Gods of Appledom ....

Yeah, my phone's history noted two (but not three) outgoing calls. The next time this happens, I'll make more detailed observations and a couple of notes. So, the first recommended fix listed for this problem is to update iOS, which I did. We'll see....
