I changed my volume pot on my HSS strat to a Fender S-1 switch and the switch isn't working (single vs humbucking), I have lost volume when I use the 5-way switch to select the bridge and middle pickup (on a scale of 1-10 with 10 being loud, it's like a 2), and the tone pot for the neck pickup doesn't work. Help please? (P.S. - I'm using 500K pots and a .047 cap because that's what I had available) My objective is simply to split the bridge humbucker to a single coil and still have the regular 5-way selection to get close to a regular SSS strat configuration.

What model Strat?
What humbucker bridge pickup?
What wiring diagram did you use?

I have an SD Pearly Gates in the bridge and Dimarzio Area pickups in the neck and middle. I have a Squire Vintage Mod HSS Strat. Here's the wiring diagram that I used.
https://www.seymourduncan.com/forum/showthread.php?275185-Hss-strat-S1-coil-split-wiring

I was able to figure out that the color coding on the wiring diagram is incorrect on the HB bridge pickup so I wired the black wire to the 5-way and the red and white to the B post on the S-1 and it works now.

The only issue I'm having now is that the neck/mid tone pot doesn't work. Thoughts?

I figured out the wiring issue with the neck/mid tone pot. Once again, the diagram I was using was wrong so made to correct and used the middle connection on the tone pot instead of the end.

The 4th position on the 5-way switch (mid-bridge pickup) still doesn't have the full sound. I would say it's around a 5 on scale of 1-10 with 10 being equivalent volume to the other 4 positions.

"...The 4th position on the 5-way switch (mid-bridge pickup) still doesn't have the full sound..."

Is that true whether the bridge pickup is tapped or not?

My first thought is that since you're using a non-Fender pickup in the bridge position, the middle and bridge pickup may have ended up being out of phase, which definitely would give you a lower volume output.

What Te 52 said.

Also, I've linked a wiring diagram for a Deluxe Lone Star Strat (I own one) that is the same configuration that you're after but with the stock pickups.

Maybe it will help...

cm3ohana, did you solder this according to the humbucker color codes shown in your linked diagram, i.e., blk & wht to the S-1 switch, grn to ground, red to selector switch? If so, that is definitely a problem, because Seymour Duncan color codes are completely different from Fender.

Good point Te 52.

Here's a good reference chart for

HB wire colour codes
