I have degenerative disc disease in my neck. After dealing with pinch nerves , home traction ,pt and finally cortisone shots , I am trying to get creative with my straps. At present I have a 335 that weighs under 9 lbs , a lp that weighs a shade under 10 and 2 strats that weigh just a touch over 7 lbs. I dont gig anymore , but I do go to jams and play at church occasionally. I might stand a half hr at a time.

Right now I ditched anything under 3 inches and have a couple of Franklin straps and a 3 inch Lakota . So far the Lakota is the most comfortable because it doesnt rub up against my neck . I was wondering if you guys have something better . Whatcha got?

If it was me, I'd move to acoustic and sit on a soft cushioned stool. If you want to continue on electric, nice stable BTW, I would still sit while playing. My only concern would be to take care as you lift even a guitar

I was going to say sitting as well.

I have this going on. But mid spine and, of course, Lumbar. I can’t even think about playing standing up right now. It’s mostly my lumbar issue.

Good advice .I am still fairly fit and I will be hitting the big 6-0 next month , so things are different than they used to be.

I've had 3 surgeries on my neck this year. I play sitting down all the time now.
lighter guitars help too.

If Skunk Baxter can sit on a stool while he plays, you can too. I hate playing standing up, always have.

This one. The give of the elastic “absorbs” some of the weight, making it feel mych lighter and way more tolerable in bad backs and shoulders.

You just have to set it a little shorter than your usual, to account for the stretch from the weight of the instrument.

It’s now the only strap I own.

I still have a Fretsling from the early 70's, nice and wide leather strap that also curves slightly. I've always used it with whatever LP I had at the time. Good luck trying to find one though. :(

I have the same DX, but lumbar region. I’m very concerned about the weight of several of my basses.

I have one of these and it really helps balance a guitar while sitting and it also promotes better posture.

The difference between an 8 lb guitar and one weighing 6 lbs is huge. I'd look for a SG or something really hollowed out.

As far as straps, I took a wide sliding shoulder pad off of a piece of luggage and put it on my unpadded conventional guitar strap. Dispersed the weight better just where you don't want the pressure at the neck/shoulder contact.

Good info at the FDP as usual. Sitting and playing is something ive considered and probably should do much more of . The 335 is very comfy to play seated. After all BB did it for much of his career. The lester is a little trickier .

I dont play the acoustic as much as I used to probably because it get a decent amount of shoulder pain with it.
