Three of us are suffering from it (my two sons and I). I saw my doc last Tuesday and he offered two prescriptions, one of which was a cough syrup with codeine, the other was benzonatate. Neither offered the slightest relief.

Fisherman's Friend extra strength menthol lozenges work great for the time they are dissolving but then you're back to the symptoms.

Anyway, I'm closing in on two weeks with no improvement (but no worse, either).

Earl Grey tea with honey is nice but I'd love to get to town and buy some bourbon and lemons to make a nighttime hot toddy but am just too out of it to go. The coughing is debilitating. I've had it once before but I seem to recall being better after a week. If you've never had bronchitis, it's like the tail end of a cold where you start to cough and get rid of the junk in your system. No other symptoms other than a horrible cough and a bit of fatigue. The coughing fits are a PITA and not terribly productive.

Moe's is turning into Miami...

Usually when I get that I end up taking antibiotics.
Hope you get rid of it soon.

It's not bacterial (it's viral) so antibiotics won't do a thing.

For some reason I always think of that kind of ailment being a winter type thing, but I guess it can happen any time.

I've had strep throat. That is very painful. You have to get your courage up just to swallow your own spit, and it kills each time you swallow. A real ass kicker.

I like to zonk out with some Theraflu or NyQuil when that kind of stuff make me feel like crapola.

Here's to hoping you round the bend soon.

TheraFlu Walgreens also has Walflu, same stuff.

Ask a pharmacist, they'll confirm that, at best, the relief of symptoms with OTC meds is minimal at best. When prescription meds don't work, OTC meds certainly won't.

It's amazing we can create a bump stock but not a cure for bronchitis...

(that's for mfitz804) ;o)

While the initial ailment may be viral, watch out for secondary, bacterial, sinus issues. That often used to be what happened to me when my kids dragged something home from school and "gifted" it to us.

So is your wife out of town?

Hope you and the boys feel better soon.

I had it so bad one year I tore some cartilage in my rib cage from coughing.

I still cannot breath as well as before I had the bronchitis. I always feel as if I'm out of breath. Blood O2 levels are 98% +.

Hope you get over it quick.

I had it back in May. Was real sick for 2 weeks, and it lingered for another 2. No fun.

Man, sorry to hear that! When I get it I sometimes can't tell if it's viral or bacterial. If it goes on a few days I go to the doctor.

Hope it goes away fast!

That was a precursor to my hospital stay from hell, both my partner at the time and I had an ugly case (coughing up blood and fun cocktails of ugly in mass quantities).

It wasn't what put me there, but it sure didn't help.

I'm convinced some people, like myself, are prone to getting it.

First time I ever got it, and one of the worst, was when I was in college. Ended up in the infirmary. Starts out as an ordinary cough but eventually progresses down deep into the lungs. It can get to the point you can't hardly even speak one word without coughing your guts out.

Man I hate that stuff.

I have chronic bronchitis. Starts out as severe allergies and ends up as bronchitis every year. There is something that will help but it comes with its own set of issues. A 10-day course of Prednisone. Also, as a preventative, I have Rx for a once-a-day steroid inhaler that I use March thru May.

Benzonatate works pretty good for me.

I had bronchitis all through May. I still occasionally cough up green. Several people in our church choir have had it so I don't know who the Typhoid Mary was. One guy said he's had it since January, so it's not me.

I have read that bronchitis can be viral or bacterial. My primary care physician put me on an antibiotic. Didn't work. Went to an urgent care doctor at my wife's insistence. Another antibiotic, PLUS two antacids, a steroid, and a cough medicine.
The drugs were worse than the bronchitis.

It did get better, but as I said, I'm still occasionally coughing up stuff. My wife put me on Mucinex twice a day.

Dr. Mom might have done the best.

Chris,

If you’re two weeks in to this and it’s that bad it might be a secondary bacterial infection by now.

Don’t die. We’d never speak to you again! (-;
