I'm doing a cheapie build while I wait for the parts for the other builds to show up.

I ordered a Basswood Tele body from Reverb. These are American made and the guy has received good reviews. $81 and free shipping.

I ordered a cheap Tele neck. MIC I'm sure. These are better than they have a right to be for the price. I paid $46/free shipping.

Stratosphere offers AlNiCo 5 Tele pickups for $15ea. So a pair of those. The bridge pickup even sports a base-plate.

I also bought a lefty Tele bridge off them with compensated barrel saddles for $25. The paint? I'm not sure yet. The only thing I know is it will be Rust-o-leum. :-P

I should be in to this for around $200-ish when completed. I might sell this one just to see what I can get out of it. Or not...

I thought you said you were going to buy a *righty* neck specifically so you *wouldn't* keep it??? (snicker snicker snicker)

I'm just waiting on a body. Ordered it 10 days ago and still waiting for it to ship. I got all my other parts and I've got my colour scheme worked out.

Well, the seller of the neck turned to vapor on me. I asked for a refund.

I just scored a decent Mighty Mite neck on Reverb for a decent price. Not that cheap, though.

That stinks. Hope you get your money back. At least if it was through fleabay, you're protected.

Haven't used it myself, but the mighty Mite stuff is supposed to be really good.

Keep us posted on the build!

Well, the seller of the cheap neck denied my request for refund because “it was shipped days ago.” Then a tracking number pops up showing it shipped yesterday. So I’m not holding my breath. And I have a second neck coming. No biggie. There will always be another Tele to put together.

That is very odd... and a little scary. Look forward to seeing what you get.

They claim to be in Cincinnati. But it appears English is a second language.

Others have had luck with these cheap necks. I thought I’d test the waters.

I had a basswood strat once and wasn't fond of the tone. Hopefully yours sounds better.

I had a Fernandes Strat that was Basswood and it was one of the best sounding Strats I'd owned. I shouldn't have sold it.

But yeah, I'm not expecting too much of the bright Tele spank from this. Not like you get out of Swamp Ash. We'll see. Some times stuff happens.

This keeps me out of the bars at night.

The body arrived today. Great body! I can work with this! Weighs 3.5lbs.

I've decided I'm making this one a Nashville.

Oh, the cheap neck. Not coming. I have a dispute open with Reverb and PayPal. Reverb has been great. An actual person emailed me to tell me what was going on. And he said, "you are completely protected with us."

They also booted that seller for something they couldn't share with me.

Any who... not worried. (-:

Well, solves that mystery - sort of. So far, I've never been scammed in an online sale.

Worst thing that happened to me was, I sold a guitar to a guy, shipped it to him, and he claimed it had damage on the cedar top (an expensive nylon string) that definitely wasn't there when I mailed it.

The jerk put a bunch of very sticky tape on the top to "show me" where the damage was! I actually did damage the top getting the tape off!

This was in the days before paypal, reverb, etc., so I ended up being stuck with that deal!

I had a guy up in Quebec buy a SX Tele (just like the one you sent me) that I had modded a bit.

He got it and claimed damaged electronics.

I mailed it USPS and Canadian post, insured. So I started the claim filing. I communicated with him all along. Even sent him copies of the claims docs. He proceeded to start a PayPal claim against me wanting $50. So I said I wanted the guitar back. A few minutes after that response he enters a tracking number "00000000000" into the dispute. PayPal immediately ruled in favor of me.

When I finally got the claim resolved the USPS paid me the full selling price of the guitar plus shipping - even though I only claimed $50. He had always wanted $50 back. So I sent him that much.

Oh, and in those days you could leave feedback after 90 days if you went back into the auction and clicked into the buyer. So I nuked him a good one. All truthful.

Through all of this I found his web site where he had the guitar listed for sale. He used my pictures and description. The $50 he wanted from me was his margin on *his* sale.

That was one of the last things I sold on eBay.

My backup option neck arrived today. It's an unused Allparts Tele neck. Rosewood and vintage tint maple.

It's nice!

Onward...
