4-5 weeks. I suppose that'll give me time to order other parts.

Painting will be interesting since it's not in my wheelhouse. I guess I'll learn.

Outstanding!

I think you'll surprise yourself painting. It's not hard once you're old and mature... like us. Patience!

Heck, if I can do it!!!

I've kinda settled on either copper with a fancy black pickguard, or black with an antique copper pickguard.

Either way that would be stunning and unique. Especially as a lefty.

Since, I already have a black guitar, I'm leaning toward the copper body.

I'll need to see if I use the neck you sent me or buy a new one. Either way, it was the inspiration for this build. :o)

That's why we're here. To enable... uh, I mean "help" ;^)

FWIW, since you bought an unfinished body, you could have saved yourself 15 bucks by doing the tummy cut yourself. Easy peasy with a drum sanding attachment, and you can customise it to your own particular tummy.
But that's just the cheapskate in me talking...

Just received my tele body the other day. Bridge is arriving today and I'll get it all laid out this weekend.

I'll do a tummy and forearm contours like I did on the last one. I really like the feel of that even if it's not "traditional".

I’m going to do the tummy and forearm contours on this basswood Tele body I just got.

I find that I don't use foreman contours, even on strats. My arm rides above them.

I have a Warmoth Thinline with a P90 neck pickup rout. So far I've had a P90 and a standard Tele neck pickup in that position with only a pickguard modification. You should be able to fit a mini humbucker in there as well should the mod fancy strike.

Mick,

How long did it take you to make those contours that way? I have a body on which I’m going to do that.

FWIW - I don’t do them so much for comfort. A regular Tele body is ok by me. I figure it’s also weight relief.

Littleuch, what did you think about the P90 and why did you remove it?

"How long did it take you to make those contours that way?"

I wasn't paying much attention to time, but I would hazard a guess at 20 minutes roughing it out with a sanding drum in the drill press, and maybe the same finishing it off by hand.

I used a 2" P80 sanding drum for bulk then graduated grits by hand.

I tend to work really slow and not much of a clock watcher, but I'm sure the whole process wouldn't have been more than an hour. (and that's probably with coffee in there too) mmmmmm.... coooofffffeeee....

edit:
D'oh!!! Just realised the tele body was done with an angle grinder! (see my old tele build thread)
But my last LP Special build was done with the sanding drum.
That said, the time frame is the same as I laid out above. Sorry, brain is caffeine depleted...

$15 for the tummy cut is no biggie to me when considering I'd have to buy the tooling to do it myself.

For my pickup combo, I'm thinking of...

1 - Bridge
2 - Bridge/Middle, Out-of-phase
3 - Middle
4 - Bridge/Neck, In-phase
5 - Neck
