Great news LM! I've never tried a boatneck but hope to one day.

I just re-read my last post above dated 15 September:
"I anticipate final assembly to be in 10-14 days. Guess we'll see what the universe's schedule says ;^)"

That was over 7 weeks ago... I guess the universe *did* have different plans after all.
Looks like I jinxed myself.

Thanks for asking Leftee.

Not to hijack but, still on crutches & the knee scooter. 4 more weeks of that, then walking full weight-bearing in the ROM boot for another 4 weeks. Lose the boot, then physio...

Let me tells ya... it's a PITA!

I ordered the Tonerider pickups today. 2-3 weeks. The neck should be here about the same time.

Since I don't have a place to paint in cold weather, I'm going to check with local bodyshops about painting the body for me. I already have about $650 sunk into this guitar and I'd rather pay a little more for a professional paint job and not have to wait until spring.

Just to comment on your outsourcing LeftyM, the way things have going for me in the finishing department, I either need to step up to big boy spray gear (and learn how to use it) or find someone to do it for me.
Problem is cost. Because I don’t have any mates that spray, paying a pro ain’t cheap (here).

Natural finishes with hand applied clears (Tru Oil or wipe on poly) work for me, but they’re time consuming and sometimes a solid colour is all you need.

Let us know how you go finding someone to do it for you.
It’s important to find someone that knows about spraying stuff other than metal auto panels too IMO.

We have a couple of local auto body shops that have sprayed guitars. I'm getting quotes from them.

My neck finally shipped today...after 5 weeks. Once I ensure it's a good fit, the body will go to the autobody shop for paint.

I stopped by to talk with them last week and to get some comfort with their work. The painter is a guitar player and has painted bodies before. I checked out his work and he's doggone good at his job. We talked about priming, painting, and clearcoat. They quoted me a price of $187. I told them I'd give them $200 even for an exceptional job.

The other shop that I contacted wanted $545. Wow!

The neck came yesterday. After fitting it up and ensuring everything was okay, I took the body to the shop today for paint.

I also took them the neck to see how much additional it would cost to paint the headstock the same color and to put a coat of poly on the neck. They said they'd do it for the same price. Sweet!

Since I'm out of town on vacation next week, I told them to take their time.
