I'm suffering from GAS in a mighty way these days!

Yesterday I ordered a(nother) new Martin, a J-40 (see link below).

I was considering either that or their M-36; both of these have the same Martin "quad-O" (0000) body outline, but the M-36 has the 000/OM body depth, while the J-40 has the dreadnought depth. Go big or go home, right?!

I ordered from Jon Garon at My Favorite Guitars - Jon gives one of the best prices you'll get anywhere (otherwise there's no way I could afford this thing).

Another reason (along with the larger body) I decided to spend more money for the J-40 is that Martin's 40 style on up (so J-40, D-41, D-42, D-45) all have genuine solid mahogany necks; in the styles below that (like D-18, D-28, D-35) the necks are "select hardwood" which might be mahogany, or cedar, or who knows what... I decided to guarantee this neck is mahogany.

Also, this is a rosewood guitar that will be the same size and the custom order I have in mahogany (a "J-18"). That's the guitar that had to be reordered - I may actually get the J-40 before that one (Jon said around 3 months). So it will be interesting to see what these two monsters sound like next to each other!

So I've got three months to clear things out and sell a bunch of stuff! Gotta get serious!

Well, the other ones are more or less paid for, and there are several other acoustics around here that need to go, so they will help keep the spread sheet balanced!

But I am gonna have ta quit now!!!

It's a disease, and you have it bad!

I'm not a doctor, but I *did* sleep in my car in a GC parking lot last night.

Me neither. The most "local" one to me is 90 minutes away in Sioux Falls, SD. And every time I go in there, I wonder why I bothered.

Mine is in Greensboro - about 120 miles south. The last time I went I was mildly impressed. They had a lot of cool used gear.

Yeah, the used gear - in >SOME< GC's - is usually the most interesting stuff they have, especially if they're in the mood to deal on it/move it. I've even seen a few interesting used lefties there (although usually it's used lefty basses).

I don’t think there’s a rule about that.
