FDP Forum / All Other Fender Guitars and Instruments / Fender Coronado II reissue issue

Hi, I'm new to the Fender Forum but not to Fender guitars. A couple of years ago I bought a reissue Coronado II guitar and really love it, except for one thing. The pick guard is either too big or badly designed as it fouls the bridge volume control. I have found this so irritating that I've now removed the pick guard (I don't play rock or HM so shouldn't be a problem). Anyone else purchased this guitar and had a similar issue?

I had one come in about two years ago with this issue. In this case, the end of the fingerplate was resting on the skirt of the volume knob.

It appeared the metal bracket that supports the plate had been bent, so I removed it, straightened it a bit, and reinstalled it. That allowed the knob to rotate.

It is a bit of a goofy design, having the plate overlap the skirt on the knob (see link). If it were my guitar, I'd remove the plate and re-shape it to take off about 1/4" of the plastic, re-establish a smooth round curve, and put a new bevel on it.

Welcome to the FDP!

Thanks for the post Peegoo, I'll leave the plate off for now as I think it actually looks better that way, but ideally I'd get it re-shaped as you suggest.

Another cool option would be to use a small sanding drum and make a recess to accommodate the knob

like I did here.
