The J5 Tele (MIM) is a hybrid guitar in that it has a Strat tremolo bridge. As I hate screw-in trem bars, I want to replace it with a pop-in bridge assembly like the Callaham.

I would think that since this is a MIM guitar that the factory bridge would be the same as a standard MIM Strat. Does anybody know if that is for sure? Fender.com has a J5 diagram on it's support page but it doesn't tell me anything about the bridge.

Measure the spacing of:

(a) the trem mounting screws, center of bass side hole to center of treble side hole. Should be either 2-1/16" or 2-3/16".

(b) the string spacing, low E to high e at the saddles. Also should be either 2-1/16" or 2-3/16", but not necessarily same as mounting hole spacing.

Those two measurements should tell you which Callaham trems are compatible.

If this one (link) is compatible with your J5 Tele, I cannot recommend it enough. I installed one of these on my 2000 MIA AS Strat and have been 100% happy with it.

The quality of the parts and plating is jaw-droppingly amazing for what it costs.

Update: according to the link (can't vouch for its accuracy), the part number for the J5 Triple Deluxe Telecaster trem is 005-4619-000, which is indeed the same part number as the MIM vintage-style (6-hole) trem.

Got confirmation from Fender that the J5 bridge is the same as the MIM vintage Strat one. Checking with GuitarFetish to see if their version has pop-in trem bar.

Following Peegoo's advice, I got the Wilkinson bridge from Guitar Fetish. Despite having no installation instructions, I managed to put it in with ease. Now I have my pop-in trem and a side benefit of not having the saddle screws poking my hand.
