I have noticed that when we have a short turn on getting a Clamfest ready to kick off we end up with less attendance and mostly tried and true songs.

The best Clamfests have been when we have lots of time to plan, block off calendars, collaborate and practice. Those have had good attendance, horn sections, multiple instruments, many vocalists and guests from greater distances

So with that in mind lets use this thread to suggest songs, share YouTube links and get some momentum going. The date has not been set- that is dependent upon OTL availability. But there is no reason why we cant have songs selected, set orders done and sign ups started

so what would be your perfect clamfest song? Suggest away and include a YouTube clip so we can all give a listen. Keep in mind there may be songs you dont know so make sure you listen. If we end up with enough time you can learn em and enjoy playing something new or out of your comfort zone!

This is a newish band called Trigger Hippy out of Nashville. Members include Black Crowes drummer Steve Gorman, guitarist Guthrie Trapp, singer Joan Osborne and bassist Nick Govrik.

Yes its needs a female voice and a B3. But that is why I made this thread early

love this groove.....and I love duets. has lots of slots for Clammers to join in on

Nothing makes more of an impression on a song than great vocal harmonies. I recently found a great site for learning Beatle harmonies. I am very impressed with this guys talent. Maybe we can learn a few.

^ that guy is awesome.
I would love to see people who are kinda local get together to practice harmonies. To me harmonies and dynamics sell the tune.

If we get a full band/vocal complement and do practice we can ensure it does not get cut and negate all the pre-jam efforts

see the below FDP link to kinda explain why this is lacking in Modern Pop music

OK - You all know I am not a computer person (and neither are any of the voices in my head) So full disclosure - THIS IS A TEST !!!!! (I hope this works)

I have a tendency to go backwards in time for songs; and to see how that artist or different artists approach those songs in this era. So with that said, check this out, and you judge.

OK Didn't work I'll get back to you

OK FIXED IT Sorry about that

Just want to note; there are other options: the voice tube isn't necessary, there is a Warren Haynes version where he substituted a Wa-Wa pedal and used a "dirtier" guitar sound in general.

Just a thought

OK: Another thought from my "Think Tank" (Also Know as the "Griz-Cave")(The many voices have been really busy).

This song has been suggested before, and never really got any traction, I'm not sure why?

FYI: I will be posting the "Live" versions of songs where ever possible for a number of reasons. Primarily because with You-Tube, there are videos! My own personal thoughts, I prefer to watch any band play VS just listening to a recording.

Brethren of the Clamfest:

I'm just throwing thoughts out there (or in my case a "Group Idea" from the many voices). The major point is: we don't have to do exactly what the recording artist does; but it's a good place to start. We have to make a jam song work for us, "Clamfest" style. Up-beat the tempo, modify the rhythm, rearrange instrumental solos, improvise where applicable.

There are no mistakes at a jam, only different arrangements!

I definitely think this is the best format to discuss those ideas for a "Clamfest" Jam.

As I said before, I go back to the old stuff that I know (Yes; I'm giving my age away) I already have a couple more songs on the drawing board, which are "High Energy"; simple, single vocal melodies (with minor back-up vocals), instrumentally easy. (I hope)

If you think I'm off track, please tell me. (The many voices in my head are easy to convince once they have been medicated!)

OK MESSED THAT ONE UP

Lets try again

Different group Same song

I was originally trying for the Humble Pie/Peter Frampton version; but doing the research I found versions by STYX, John Mayer, and the New Riders of the Purple Sage. Main question: is the song doable for Clamfest?

I think it's doable, but it's pretty arrangement-oriented. There are little breaks and extra stuff going on in there (it does kick arse), so for it to stay on the rails, everybody on the tune would have to sorta study this version.

@ Peegoo: Thank you my friend, I agree; the stop & go timing is a bit tricky. My main concern (being a drummer) was the chord progression for the guitars. If it makes the final cut, it should be fun.
I had another Kick-A$$ song on the drawing board, but was told it was too difficult "guitar wise". I put that one on the back burner for now.

I love the NJ Dept/Highway sign. That says it all!

My Fellow Clammers

It is again time for my weekly song suggestion(s) for the Un-Official S.T.I.M.(Some Time in May) 2019 Spring Clamfest.

A select Panel, consisting of the many voices in my head, have been diligently working on different songs (hopefully) acceptable to the Many Musical Minions of Clamfest.

The parameters utilized were: popular tunes; an up beat tempo; a good melody line; and simple instrumentation. (The possibility of the influence of a B-3, & female singers took honorable mention.) A John Mellencamp song.

Hurt so Good (Live) Kenny Chesney & Gretchen Wilson
