Considering a set of noiseless for a tele.
I have several strats with FVN's and really like them. (would almost say 'love' but...)
Gen 4 Tele ones are similar in specs and use A2 mags like the strat ones, but the FVN Tele are A5 and different DCR & L (fwtw)
I can get a pretty good deal on either set atm (by AUD standards).
TIA

Have you experienced a decent set of true single coil pups in a properly shielded guitar?
I ask this because I played with noiseless for yrs. Not sure why, maybe because I was used to humbuckers? IDK now.
Many years ago... I got on a quest for vintage tones, researched correctly shielding a guitar and discovered how great true single coils sound when compared to noiseless.
IMO The best noiseless only come close to a decent set of single coils.

pcalu - I do thorough shielding jobs on all my guitars. I also have had, and do have, some great sets of SC's in both strat and tele.
FWIW, even my guitars with FVN's are shielded.
I'm just looking for any first experiences between the two noiseless Fender offerings in the thread title.
As far as the whole noiseless v. single coils debate, I'm not going down path today.

Well I pulled the trigger on a set of N4’s after a few decent video demos of them.
The best ones were actually demos of the American Elite Teles but they got the point across.
I got them for a pretty go price (AUD-wise) and could probably recoup 90% of my money if I were to sell them on.
I’m fairly confident they’ll work for me though.
I was eventually able to ascertain the physical height of the pickups and won’t need to deepen the routing in the body.

Mick, what size pots are you using with the vintage noiseless pups?

Hey Ryder.
A timely post on your part as I just installed the G4 Tele pickups four days ago.
I used 500k pots for this Tele, but I have also used 250's in my Strats (mostly).
I say mostly because one them I swapped to 500's as an experiment. Personally I couldn't hear a discernible difference.
I wanted to, but it just wasn't there IMO. I have not ever used the 1M pots, but may give them a go one day.
I've read a number of posts (here & other forums) of the 1M's being too *too* bright, but I have no first hand experience.
I went with 500's on the Tele for no particular reason other than "just because". If that makes any sense. I had them in my "pots drawer" so gave them a shot.
I'm still debating whether I like the sound of the Gen 4's. It' not a matter of that don't sound good, just different. Mostly with the clean sounds. A bit of dirt, they sound great.
FWIW, I'm not a high gain guy. Moderate OD at most.
I still very much like the VN's with 250's in my Strats though. Clean and with OD.
Sorry for the looooooonnnnngggg answer 8^)
edit:
AND, I just realised you were only asking about the VN's specifically... so there ya go!

The guy switching the pups in my Deluxe thinline said the VNs had 1 meg pots. I’ve read the 500s sound better.

So Mick,
why VN4's? What's different from VN3's? Do you have VN3's?

"The guy switching the pups in my Deluxe thinline said the VNs had 1 meg pots. I’ve read the 500s sound better."
I have a pair of 1M pots I'm going to try in this Tele just for the heck of it (hopefully today or tomorrow). I'll let you know what my impressions are after playing.
"why VN4's? What's different from VN3's? Do you have VN3's?"
I can't tell you the technical design differences between the VN and the Gen 4's, but visually, there are very obvious ones.
I only went with the G4 because I read positive things about them (and videos) and was willing to take a punt.
As I've mentioned previously I have the VN's in strats and very happy with them.
