FDP Forum / All Other Fender Guitars and Instruments / what is best string gage for 1956 Duosonic 012 or013?

Nov 6th, 2018 08:32 PM   Edit   Profile

I currently got a1956 Duo sonic and the strings seems 010 -046 gage but I think heavier gage might be good for those short scale 50's Fender student models I'll try 013but I'd like to hear any suggestions or recomendations.

Back in the 50s, flatwounds (with a wound G) were popular on these guitars, so that's another consideration, tone-wise.

Other than that, what really matters is how you play the guitar and the feel you prefer. You can certainly go to 13s, but string bending will be difficult compared to using 10s.

I have a 1965 Mustang and I use 11s on it. I find the 11s provide a good balance of tone and comfortable play/bendability.

Thank you Peegoo for your suggestions, I order one pack of 13s set with a wound G I will try this one and swich around depends on how I feel both tone and playablility.
