It is a stellar top. These got AA flame.

It was the same with my Standard. Those were AAA.

In both cases I’d say “plus.”

I see a spec sheet saying these have a "rounded neck profile". Substantial like the 50's Trib, or something close?

It sure is bootiful.

Well... it seemed only logical.

Gibson guitar wants Gibson amp.

I believe this to be a '64 or '65 Skylark. I got it for a great price because it has some mods and the trem does not work. I plan to restore it to original. It also has a replacement speaker - an Eminence Lil' Buddy. Nothing wrong with that choice! That amp is quite clean and straight. The handle is tight like it's never been used... but no evidence that it's a replacement.

It also has a Z Amp Brake Lite attenuator installed on the baffle and wired in.

That amp sounds really good as-is. I'm in no hurry to get inside it. I did peek under the hood. The tech that worked on this amp did excellent work. Even a super-clean installation of the three prong plug.

60’s Gibson amps are overlooked tone beasts. Have the volume knob anywhere past 7 and that Skylark should really sing.

I can testify!

And these sell for the price of a SF Champ. I got this one for less. And well less than a VC.

I’ll dig into this one and get it back to stock, some day.

This one runs on 6AQ7 output tubes. Those are still available NOS for little dosh.

Yes... I have.

I’m done for a while. There is no room or desire for more.

Tomorrow I start wet sanding/buffing out a certain Tele body.

Eric, the pic shows the middle of the guitar seems to have a faded effect. Is that just the pic or does it look that way?

It’s Antique Burst.

Why do I keep fixing things that work?

I have never seen a burst like that but I have a lemon burst that is really close in comparison. The middle has faded like yours to where it is almost looking like a light stain over the clear maple top and the edges are orangish-yellow. But I must say that yours is the most unique color I have ever seen!! She is magnificent!! Beautiful!!

Thanks! It really is a great top.

It’s neat to find these guitars with top that out-do their expectation.

This guitar has become my #1.

I let it hang for a full two weeks to let the clear set up. (-:

It was one of my finalists, last year, when I bought my Standard. As it worked out, my Standard is bourbon burst.

So it’s win/win for me! I’ve got two 2017s in my top two bursts.

Waiting for a new finish to cure is torture.

Having a distraction such as a new Lester is always helpful.

From now on, anytime someone asks me how long to wait before final wet sanding and polishing a finish, my reply will be, "two weeks minimum; three weeks is better. Meantime, get yourself a new Les Paul so you have something else to think about."

If three weeks is better, I’m waiting another week. Sorry Mike. This part makes me nervous.

But I won’t buy another Lester.
