Well, I "accidentally" bought a Taylor GS Mini Mahogany on Reverb yesterday... made a low offer on it, the seller countered, I countered back $25 more than my original offer, and they accepted.

I've played a few of these in shops (including lefties, which show up from time to time in the wild), and they sound impressive for their tiny size (and shorter 23 1/2" scale length).

Something "fun" to play with...

I have a Marshall 2x12 cab (the new vertical model) in inbound from Reverb. I’d been watching it and, yesterday, the seller was repeatedly dropping the price. Signal received! I tossed an offer which was accepted. It’s virtually brand new with original box.

Good think you're moving out to the country!

You'll have room for it AND you can turn it up!

Actually, I don’t have a Marshall head to go on top of it. I plan on running the Mesa through it.

I have a pair of Jensen Jet Nighthawks on the way, for it, as well.

My Taylor GS Mini arrived this afternoon - in one piece in spite of how beat up the box was! It looked like it had been kicked across the UPS facility, then thrown into the truck, out of the truck, and at my secretary when it arrived at my office this afternoon! In a cheapy box and Taylor's (well padded) gig bag, no less!

It had the deadest strings on it that I've seen on a guitar in a long time...wow. BUT, there were some bonuses in the gig back pocket: a Snark tuner (w/dead battery - but it works now) a Shubb capo (nice!), a set of strings, and two room key cards for a Super 8 Motel somewhere in southern California (I assume - that's where this shipped from)!

I noticed the action was a tad high - this being a low end instrument, I doubt it ever got a serious set up. I did a quick run over the nut slots with my files, just to clean them up, but pulled the saddle and sanded off about 1/16". Much better. Might lower the nut slots a little more later, but I was pressed for time tonight.

Put on a set of Martin Retro Medium strings, and changed out the high E and B for a 14 and 18 gauge (because these have a short scale of 23 1/2"). This thing came to life! What a transformation from those thumpy dead strings! (I wonder if they were the originals that came on the guitar? "This guitar doesn't sound good anymore; I guess it's time to sell it...")

I'm truly impressed by the tone and volume this little guitar can put out. The only place where it's a little shy of "great" is on the low E string open - the short scale and smaller body just can't quite create that low E thump...but from the G note on up, it's pretty good.

It's kinda purdy, too. Almost looks like koa on top (but it's hog)

Not this year, I value my life too much. But last year, I had just gotten my commission check, and I saw a 94 American Standard Lefty Strat that called to me, I couldn't resist.

Glad I did, cause she is one of the best guitars I've ever owned.

Wow. I'm such a bad boy. Just get a few out of the nest, and something interesting pops up.

Just bought a Gibson J-35 on Reverb. They're discontinued, this wasn't a bad price, and I kinda miss my J-45 (but not the bad intonation...).

Hopefully this one will have the Gibson thump AND proper intonation. I notice these have the vintage top bracing, while the J-45 had the more modern top bracing. And the J-35 had teh smaller bridge...

...I'll give a full report after it arrives (maybe Friday, but I don't know for sure yet - supposed to have 2-day shipping).

I may be looking for more things to sell...

... but something did show up yesterday.

I snagged a Douglas (Rondo Music) 6 string baritone with case on Reverb. It was a great price. It's neck-through construction. I figured it was an inexpensive way to add a baritone to the collection.

It was silly cheap - and with a nice case.
