FDP Forum / The 'Pup' Tent / Noiseless PUPS with 250k ohm pots?

So I acquired a set of Vintage Noiseless pickups that came with 500k ohm pots. My question is, do I really need to change the pot value?

I need to know so I don't have to change the original CTS pots out if I don't have to. I should mention that I normally leave all the pots on 10 and I don't want these pickups to sound too harsh either.

Thanks, kids!

Hi Tygr1.

There's a number of threads on the topic, both older & newer if you do some searches, but I'll share my experience with FVN's.

First, I'm big fan of them. Second, I've tried 500's and 250's and did not hear a discernible difference.

The majority of my strats that have FVN's are 250k pots and I think they sound plenty bright and spanky. Not harsh at all.

I've linked a thread I posted recently about a set of Tele G4 Noiseless and pot values that you may find useful or at least of interest. (I do talk about Vintage Noiseless a bit in it)

Also, if you didn't know already, Fender use to recommend (and originally supply) 1 Meg pots with the VN's.
I've never tried them, but can't imagine going that high a value based on what I hear with 500 and 250's.

As always, YMMV.

Thanks for that, Mick. I'll be leaving the pots alone.

Thanks again, Mick!

I’m one who had VN’s in a Tele. I didn’t like them, and I’m sure it was due to the 1 Meg pots put in by Fender.
