I tried to post this in Moe's but since I am not an actual member it wouldn't let me. But this forum will get the word out to people here that know him, or a moderator can transfer it if not appropriate to post here.

I have not seen this posted anywhere on FDP (if so I apologize). I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I think you should know that Rich Hlaves (Hammond101) passed away recently. I don't have any details other than it was complications following a recent surgery.

I met Rich about five years ago through this website and we realized that we lived pretty close to each other. He volunteered to take a look at a Princeton Reverb Reissue that I was having trouble with. He found the problem quickly (of course) and there is a discussion about it somewhere back in the archives of the FDP. We stayed in touch after that. I have since had the pleasure to be a guest in his home several times and played in a band with him for nearly a year. We shared a 45 minute ride each way to practice every week so we got to talk a lot and share stories. He was an interesting guy. The type that knows at least a little about nearly everything, and especially Fender amps. I will miss my friend and his prolific contributions to the FDP. R.I.P Brother.

Indeed - very sad. Hasn't been that long since he posted here.

RIP.

Oh no! He last logged on 12/21. We need some confirmation, if possible.

Oh man, that is so upsetting to hear. Yet another of my amp tech online brothers has passed. He was a very knowledgeable guy and offered a lot of viable and accurate tech advice to a lot of folks.

I have long believed that the primary attraction on the FDP is the tech advice and conversation about guitars and amplifiers. I have often wondered why Moe's is held up as such a special and privileged part of the FDP. If it was just Moe's and little else, I doubt there would be an FDP...and for sure, guys like Hammond101 and many others have done so much to keep people coming back to the FDP for help and advice.

I had NO idea he was in ill health...assuming that was the cause of death, regardless, he will indeed be missed. Indeed... rest in peace my friend.

I was told that one of his family members (I assume it was his sister) posted the news on his Facebook page. I am not on Facebook so I wasn't able to look it up. I was really shocked and saddened...hoping it wasn't true. I have been in touch with other mutual friends but I don't have any additional information. If any of you guys are on Facebook perhaps you can find more details and let us know.

I have no gripe about not being allowed to post in Moe's. I just wasn't sure where to post this. I respect the fact that contributing members have access to other forums like the For Sale section, etc. I feel like being included on this site at any level is a privilege.

I just looked him up from my wife’s FB account and I see no mention of this on his timeline. But his GF’s timeline confirms he’s gone.

LS, it's fine to post this here. Rich was a friend to many on this site.

While I'm not on facebook, I did some googling and found this link from a bandmate.

Thanks for the research Chris...looks like it's a fact. Hard to believe...but then again as i've gotten older it has become painfully common.

Yeah, willie, I guess it's a curse of age that we end up knowing too many others that have gone before us. This was just a real shock to suddenly come across this today. I talked to Rich via email on occasion and he was a regular supporter of the site and had been a member here for 10 years. I felt like I knew him.

Hi Chris
Jon Bessent passed away several years ago.
Here's a link.
I don't want to take away from Riches passing, but I think Jon was right up there with Willie and Rich.
There are few remaining souls who have the depth of Willie, Jon, ans Rich.

Hammond101 took the time to reply to my newbie questions a few times.

I wasn't around in the day's that Jon Bessent posted here.

Condolences to both of their families.
