Got two guitars incoming this week (sometimes it just happens that way...)

Eric/Leftee finished my Tele, and shipped it this morning - excited to try this one out! It will be my first Tele with a 3 pickup set-up, something I've wanted for a long time. Plus, I got to pick the color - Burgundy Mist! Pics look good (Eric, if you want to post a couple, go for it - you are the photographer par excellance around here!).

The other guitar is one I've been watching on Reverb for months - a(nother) Martin acoustic, a 2004 OM-21. The price seems right, as long as it has no issues, and I don't expect that based on lots of conversation with the seller over the past few months, and his other sales and feedback.

The Martin will arrive on Wednesday, the Tele on Friday, and my wife will be gone Friday and Saturday - guess what I'll be doing!!!

Note the bear claw in the sitka on the top. I'm not really a fan of bear claw - but at this price, and for what I want to use this guitar for, it's not an issue...

...sadly, I have another Martin in the gate (on order - should be here in the next 3-4 weeks); a Model America 1 dreadnought - which is basically a D-18 with all American woods: Adirondack top, Sycamore b/s, Walnut bridge/fingerboard/headplate, Cherry neck.

I've played one of these (a righty), and they sound excellent! So there will be another NGD post around here soon... and then more stuff for sale!!!

Meanwhile:

OM-21

I actually didn't take pics when it was finished. Here's one from last weekend.

Wow... now the Martin's tracking has been updated to land here Thursday, too. Hope we're here (at my office) when they arrive: we have to leave early that afternoon (around 3:00) for a meeting in the cities - that just figures! Argh!

Anyway; they'll both definitely be here Friday for sure...then I'll have some time Saturday to check 'em out.

The Martin OM-21 arrived early yesterday morning, but since it was so cold out - wait... wait... wait... argh!!!

Finally opened the case late yesterday afternoon and tuned her up. First thing I noticed: she had strings from at least two different sets on her! The G string was 80/20 bronze, the rest of the wounds were PB; the B (or E?) was gold plated while the other was the standard silver color.

First task last night after Ash Wednesday service: string change and clean up (some light fingerprints here and there). Loosened the strings and the nut came loose, too!

So a couple drops of super glue and a string change later (along with lowering the E and B nut slots some), and I played her a little... I know we've had the discussion around here about whether or not guitars "wake up," but this one did!

Maybe it was just the new strings settling in, but I don't think this guitar has been played for a while (he had it listed on Reverb for 11 months). So I do think it woke up a little from a looooong winter's nap.

It took about an hour of playing, setting her down, picking up another acoustic for comparison, then playing her some more. By bedtime, she was starting to sound pretty darn good. This morning when I picked her up and played her (after she'd been hanging in my humidified office all night with the other acoustics) she sounded even better.

Nice little 2004-ish OM-21 (S.N. 995xxx) She sounds very different from my Larrivee OM-05 (Sitka / Hog), so they both have their place.

Pics or it didn't happen!

It reminds me of a Guild that I had a decade ago.

Nice!

One more to go.

I hope I got your nut slots right. If anything I didn’t take them low enough.
